Sanguinor and Sanguinary Guard

One of Valraks older rumours, attached with the first information we got regarding a new Lemartes & Astaroth. 
 

he’s since feigned he ever said this, but I think it’s more ‘keeping things tight lipped’ just in case. 
 

but this was an earlier rumour, not a recent one. 

I must have missed that one completely, it doesn’t even remotely ring a bell in my head.

We still have bespoke weapons.

the cross guards are very intricate, they have engraved blood drops, the swords are very bespoke.

 

and want to talk about bespoke weapons? Spears/polearms in general are very bespoke compared to a powerfist or a power axe or a power sword.

 

Would rather just keep the option that half of my Sang guard have had for years than get spears, lose axes, lose bespoke ancient banners, and then gain AI generated cross guard.

Something the new ones would have benefitted from, is three distinct torsos and 3 distinct death masks. Even that alone would have likely had people liking them more I suspect

 

We went from a box that had 5 distinct models to make a 5-10 man squad (And could make MANY MORE distinct models than 5 with part combinations) that's getting replaced with what amounts to 1.33 models that are going to make a 3-6 man squad, where the only major distinction seems to be what weapon they're holding and whether or not they are the bannerman.

It sucks MAJORLY from that angle alone, let alone anyone's personal opinions on what they like or don't like about the aesthetic changes.

I don't think it was a timing thing - Sword Brethren could have gone the honor guard route, but it seems GW preferred to keep them as a more typical veteran squad akin to the Sternguard, the Vanguard, the Wolf Guard, or whathaveyou. Plus the Bladeguard Vets were already pretty Templar-y in their aesthetic anyway.

 

On a similar note, I fully expect the Victrix Guard to be re-released as three-man unit in the next few years, likely simultaneous with a re-release of Calgar in Terminator Armor.

After seeing the side-by-side provided by @Blindhamster, the only thing I do wish the new models had was the gorget.

I think Calgar is one of the better Primaris transitions as he diverges a bit from the old model whilst keeping some classic elements.

 

I think GW could be bolder when it comes to updating characters. Hot take: I would have no issue with a new Lysander model that is wearing Gravis Armour.

 

I'm hoping that when the eventual Grimnar update rolls around, he also takes up a bespoke suit of Gravis Armour. We need some unique looking variants like what Calgar is wearing.

I love the new calgar, especially since he's basically an Aggressor. But Lysander and Grimnar gotta be in Terminator suits. Especially Lysander since he's basically THE Assault Terminator Character.

Oh, I absolutely expect Sicarius to be re-released as well, but I wouldn't be surprised if they put him back in charge of Second Company. Seems like he was only lost in the warp long enough to explain why "one a them new-fangled Prah-MARRUS Marines" was running the poster-boy company of the poster-boy chapter.

The fact some 3D shops already have Death Company and Sanguinary guard in the GW style makes me think there’s some of the hundreds of sculptors GW employs now have a little something on the side or don’t agree with the product that comes out of committee.

Save the Gravis armor for all of the AMAZING new non-legacy Primaris characters.

Grimnar can be an opportunity to "wolf-up" a Gravis suit. We've had customised Terminator variants for years. If it was up to me, he'd be a Gravis Chapter Master, and the Wolf Guard would also be clad in Gravis - Axes and shields all round.

I think I he lesson here is revamping legacy units and heroes should be done with being true to the classic mini as possible.

Those are far and away better. I can deal with some uniformity if it includes nipples and removes weird extra cables and double fanny packs.

Firstly, Personally think these ones are miles better than the new ones.

 

Secondly, he does actually have a few options for torsos (helpfully his torsos are interchangeable)

1) the same as your image, but with an Imperialis rather than the BA  chapter symbol

 

And 2) No symbol at all but some filigree on the gorget (my personal pick, although id rather a mixture)
