12” Movement > D6+1” Advance > Shoot > 2D6+1” Charge > Remove Dish from Blender, and serve to perfection.

Hmm, that is an average threat range of just over 24" so Turn 1 charges are not only possible but easy in Pariah Nexus missions.

The risk of course is that throwing just Dante + the SG into the heart of the enemy on T1 will likely kill something and then see them either shot to pieces or counter-charged the following turn. Supporting that charge is going to be the tricky part.

Do the Sanguinary Guard get a 2+ save as well as their 4++?

I believe so, yes. They are now equal or better than BGVs in pretty much all regards. Better swords, better regular save and 12" move. The real question is how much more they will cost. BGVs are currently 30ppm. I would be very surprised if SG come in at less than 40ppm.

As for the Combat Patrol, it looks better than the Dark Angels one as it has more new models, the Character can actually join the squad and it contains the new upgrade sprues rather than the old one.

That isn't an awful deal, admittedly - as you get the new Captain (and ten spare Assault Intercessors) as well. If you're like me and own a grand sum of zero Assault Intercessors it's an excellent box all around.

I’ll be taking spears regardless just because they’re cooler than swords.

Rules change, models are forever.

I'll be going spears as well because they look so much cooler to me. As @Karhedron pointed out the Deathwing knights weapons were tweaked later on. And I'd rather be happy with the models I'm paying for than build to rules that will change drastically months or years from now.

I am planning for two full units though so may do one with swords for variety's sake.

It’s a choice.

Lance or more AP and attacks.

Might be conducive to run 2 units, one with swords to handle infantry, and another with spears to handle the elites, multiwound units, monsters and light vehicles

On the charge they’re capable of dealing with a lot more than just light armor thanks to lance. Especially if the +2 S on the charge is still available.

Yep unless you’re a dirty meta chaser rule of cool should always win out.

Bet any money Combat Patrol will drop before the SG does

forcing players to buy it if they want their hands on it first

For sure, but it'd be dumb to buy anything else.  Those SG are gonna retail for $60USD a kit, so two of them is $120.  Combat Patrol's are up to $168 (Outrageous), so with the $40 captain, you're getting Intercessors for basically free, plus two upgrade sprues for free;  a $70 value, fora  total value of $120~ (After taking back the missing $10 from 2xSG 1xAI) over retail.

I can't see a reason, unless they make the SG squad size 9, which you'd ever be interested in buying a lone box of them.  The savings alone on the CP are crazy if you're at all interested in having a collection of modelling stuff.

I’m hearing 45ppm

The new helmets dont look great. Is this new picture our first time seeing them? Stormcast heads might be better.

We've been complaining about those heads for at least a week now :P

As far as DC dread, just let it keep it's current ability.  I do not want that as it's ability, significantly worse.

Damned - a combat patrol with 2x3 Sanguinary guards?! This looks like quite an unsual setting for a patrol box. Far from DA or BT one for example...

Wow, seeing 6 Sanguinary Guard together really hammers home that the kit is a poor improvement.

Given the amazing designs we see coming out of AoS, Warcry, etc we shouldn't really have such limited choices in the new SG kit. Identical poses, no axes, and they didn't even bother to swap the heads around.

45ppm for Sanguinary Guard is a little higher than I had hoped but not unreasonable. This allows us to compare a 6-man squad at 270 points to an old 10-man squad at 310 points.

Overall Cost -40 points so an overall advantage to the new squad.

At 3 wounds each, the new squad gets 18 wounds compared to 20 for the old version but the squad also gets a 4++ so is probably slightly more durable overall. The squad is more durable against 2D attacks (which are common) and less durable vs 3D attacks (which are relatively rare now).

Offensively the squad is a significant downgrade as it drops from 40 attacks to 24 attacks. Those attacks are slightly better quality better as they are now S6 Ap-3 as opposed to S5 Ap-2 from the old squad. Also it looks like the squad is limited to just 1/3 inferno pistols so that is another downgrade (although we have not seen if the Angels Boltguns get any sort of buff yet).

Overall the SG don't look bad value compared to their previous incarnation although relatively few people fielded SG at high level lists. With Sanguinary Priests losing access to Jump Packs and Death Company now limited to 1 Fist and 1 Eviscerator per 5-men, SG are now the only squad that can field massed, high AP melee attacks on a jump unit. This creates a niche for them by nerfing their competition.

BA Combat Patrol is gonna include 6 of the SG, which feels crazy to me.

It’s a really good box because it’s also effectively the new Death Company without Jump Packs, the new Captain, and two of the new Sanguinary Guard. I have more Assault Intercessors than I originally wanted and am still tempted.

Super elite and hard hitting, but if you’re outmanuevered…

Another combat patrol, another reduction in controllable elements. Bland contents for little Jimmy looking to spend his parents' pocket money. The older one, although with relatively random contents, was more interesting on the eye and contents. This is gold guys running forward to chop and red guys running forward to chop. It's a different coloured version of the world eaters box whereby they have elements that run forward and chop. Where's the variety? Where's the interest? Am I just older and too cynical? I really think they peaked with the ork CP box with dread, koptas, boyz and mega armoured warboss. 5 different elements to do something with in game. Big stompy dread, missile toting koptas... so much more interest than this. Sorry, but it feels like GW are trying to sabotage CP from within. I appreciate that more people play 40k regular over CP but for school clubs and such, CP is a great entry point. I hope BA players like the new minis but from an objective perspective, the AoS spearheads contain a greater variety of stuff on the whole and provide more visual interest.

Considering armies nowadays have no real structure and you can take what you want, are people running regular or assault intercessors out of combat patrol?

Spearhead is Combat Patrol, but done correctly and with care. They acknowledge it’s truly a different game so it lets them make better, more interesting forces. I think you do yourself a disservice. You recognized the intended audience and how Combat Patrol can get them into the hobby-sphere. That’s where veterans come into play; showing new folks all the cool things that can be done beyond the confines of GW’s corporate box.

I use both regular and assault intercessors.

I’m not a tournament player to be fair.

Honestly I think combat patrol as a concept is good, but the execution is bad. My son, friends and I just do 500 point lists.

The copy paste look on those '6' SG is hilarious.

Just so poor. We used to have multi-pose kits folks, and GW has just completely regressed with these jigsaw puzzle yet locked in copy paste CAD jobs. You hate to see it.

I don’t think you are too old and cynical. I actually feel the same way, are these just different colored versions of minis getting the same rules?

We now have at least three units that have the blood surge, we have Metamorphs, world eaters, and BA.

I’m also seeing a lot of armies get jump troops. We just saw the addition of imperial guard (non FW) getting jump packs. Chaos has it, Eldar have it, Ad Mech, Orcs, etc.

Maybe it’s just part of an attempt to balance this game, if everybody has the same or similar abilities in their army, it tends to even out could be a design perspective.

As far as the new blood angels, I am super hyped. I think everything looks great, not perfect, but this is what the army is going to be going forward and I know I can use some kit bash skills to add sufficient bling to the angels.
