I am going to keep running my OG Sanguinary Guard I think. I am not a huge fan of the new models and since Swords > Spears, I won't be losing anything by running my old loadouts.

Warcom showed us the difference early this week.  Swords are just straight up better, unfortunately.

 

 

The maths been done to death in various places, but there's only the smallest niche available to the Spear that makes them the correct build.

That being said, when they had the same issue with Deathwing Knights, they ended up getting buffed so that there was a legit choice between weapons, so The Spears could get there.  I think just making them Ap -3 probably gets them there for me, or maybe making them strength 7?  They don't need to do much to make it a consideration to be made; it probably should just be "Encarmine weapons" and then have a sweep and a strike profile.

With the sword getting more attacks I think you need more than just AP-3 to make the spears generally an even option.

either push the S up to 7 or the D up to 3.

S9 on the charge w/ lance makes them a solid threat to armor.

Not a BA collector, though I do consider getting on kit (second handfrom all the inevitable patrol boxes people might buy) to surround Dante on my shelf. Which is why I don't really consider kit bashing or extra bits worth the effort, but I did consider playing around with the paint scheme a bit to break up the massive chunk of gold.

 

Basically the idea is; instead of buying or sculpting wings, and to keep them from out-blinging humble wing-less Dante, I'll just paint a wing pattern or really feathery design on the entire pack, since surely it can't be that hard.

 

In case it is that hard to do a feather pattern I'll probably stick with just priming them white, doing a bog simple marble texture, and either go wild with transfers, or try my hand at golden swirlies (because those are so much easier, right?)

 

Either way, eyes will be blackened, red tears will be added, the curved mag pouch will be either relocated or cut, and I think it'll be quite passable visually.

Also the upper legs do have a bit of a musculature design on them but for some reason just on the inside, while the outside retains the standard tacticus plating.
