Is it possible the imperium side is 5 new ratlings alongside 1-2 old ogryns, maybe with an ogryn upgrade sprue?

It feels like tankbusters or ard boyz would have to be a standalone kit, especially with the new boyz kit the way it is. I'm definitely up for tankbustas.

Tankbustas I genuinely think that you could have an upgrade sprue for the kommandos but I guess we'll see what comes.

There was an excellent little narrative hook in one of their Flashpoints about an Abhuman prison that had been taken by chaos. The Ratlings were able to sneak through small places and release their larger cell mates, who were able to put up some resistance.

Always wanted to make a mission based on that hook. I've known for a long time that my guard had to include Abhumans. This box might help me get there.

Both Tankbustas or 'Ard Boyz could be done with an upgrade sprue, but of the two I feel 'Ard Boyz is more likely because with the exception of a Shield (which could very easily just be on the upgrade sprue), their equipment is exactly the same as Boyz because they are just Boyz (and a Nob) in 'Eavy Armour.

Current boyz kits is extremely difficult to be compatible with any future upgrade sprue. It has "ETB" design and having weapon, limb and torso on same part.99120103081_ORKCPSprue10.jpg?fm=webp&w=6

Fingers crossed he(Valrak )is right (as he usually is)

@Nova-V please don’t respectfully disagree like you always do with Valrak

I’d really love a new Ork kit (hopefully tank busta’s or Ard boyz)

Mithril

Didn’t valrak specifically say new kits for both factions, not upgrade sprues for existing kits.

Could be the oft rumored and much wanted MPK Boyz kit, plus an upgrade.

Seems like a weird place to do it, but they've done non starter sets with two brand new kits (Scouts v Scorpions comes to mind).

I think Salvation was the "starter" for season three, and Ashes of Faith its own weird thing. (Notably, the roadmap referred to what-would-be Salvation as New Season Part 1.)

Kill Team 2021 S1:

  • Krieg vs Kommandos
  • Novitiates vs Pathfinders*
  • Corsairs vs CSMs*
  • Traitor Guard + Traitor Enforcer/Ogryn** vs Phobos*

S2:

  • Kroot vs Navy
  • Kasrkin vs Necrons* + Cryptek**
  • Arbiters vs Drukhari*
  • Beastmen vs Votann Warriors*

Interlude

  • Inquisitorial Henchmen + Scions** + SoS** vs Dark Commune** + Cultists** + Accursed Cultists**

S3:

  • Scouts vs Scorpions
  • Mandrakes vs Night Lords*
  • Votann Hunters vs Brood Brothers* + Broodcoven**

(With * denoting the upgrade sprew'd, ** denoting additional existing kits.)

A mixed unit of Ogryn and Rattlings sounds cool for Killteam, but awkward as hell when it gets turned into a squad in 40K. Maybe it's a prompt to buy two kits, so you get a full squad of each?

Chaos Cultists, Blades of Khaine and Brood Brothers are all teams which are made up of combing multiple different 40k units and units for the one Kill Team, so there is a precedent for it.

This is an interesting step away from the flying aspect of the launch. I think as it's getting a CGI trailer, the Vespid v Scion/Elysian box IS a new edition. Maybe that doesn't mean all of this edition's first season is to do with flight though? I'm just crossing everything for new Vanguard Veterans, kill team or otherwise.

Yeah Multi Part Kit. So all your boys can go back to being individuals instead of each squad twinning a bunch.

They never discontinued the older multi part kit. I think we're more likely to see a single kit. I do wonder though if we need ard Boyz on top of regular and snagga boyz.

My genuine hope is for tankbustas as they do need replacing as opposed to something "totally new" (in terms of datasheet rather than concept).

Random thought: the Darktide board game had a sprue with an Ogryn and a Kasrkin on it - maybe that could be packaged with the new Ratlings to add some diversity to the kill team?

I believe those were one of the standard Ogryn sprites - three in a normal box each making one Ogryn - and afaik reusing one of the monthly free model to paint spruces for the Kasrkin.

looking forward to seeing the vespid! always thought they were a cool idea, the best thing about tau is all the auxilia, honestly kill team feels like such a good place to expand tau auxilia more over time, maybe some humans with tau equipment or even some demiurg would be interesting or any of the more obscure ones for that matter.

as far as ogryn and ratlings go.. maybe less well armoured ogryn would be cool, something more like the style of classic ones maybe? (vest tops etc).

Bob Olley style would be great to see.

Sure but the point was people liked the new sculpts but they aren't multi part and they want the updated sculpts while also having more choices. I'm not sure what not discontinuing an older kit has to do with that.
