Waaagh?
Wow, people are still talking about this? Honestly as much as I'd have liked to see some actual heresy stuff I'm happy to hear they're going back to marines for a bit, they've changed their stance on plastic legion specific stuff and Heresy Thursday is back soon. That's all info I didn't have 24 hours ago. Would more have been cooler sure but I went into this only expecting very little as they had previously said in an article. ZeroWolf
Krieg tho... But yes, it seems odd that everything will be quiet for the rest of the year on the 40k front.... is there really that much AoS to chug through? Not just AoS though is it, a whole new edition of LOTR means more product on that front, not to mention Old World Xanthous and Marshal Reinhard 1 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/383513-nova-open-preview-august-28th29th/page/13/#findComment-6060958 Share on other sites

Robbienw
It’s obviously because of production issues. They don’t want to commit to stuff as firmly as before because of this, plus there will be longer gaps between releases at some points. Dr. Clock
I'm definitely a little bit surprised that there will be no new Codexes while the Skaven and Stormcast both come out, but I can't say I'm exactly dissatisfied to avoid another lip service single character + Codex release. A busy Codex release schedule combined with the quarterly updates on the game has left things more confused and inconsistent than they oughtta be IMO. Seems like some books either fall behind or jump ahead not least because of the moving target that is the game state when a) new units and detachments release more or less monthly, but b) all new releases were written for the game as it was 2 cycles ago. So I'm actually okay if they just focus on raising the bottom tiers a bit in Fall and let things reach a more solid homeostasis before unleashing the might of Krieg and Warp Spiders on an unsuspecting meta. It does seem like this effective hiatus is a product of some capacity crunch combined with the apparent/rumoured last minute re-write of 10th. It wouldn't surprise me to learn that the dev team blasted through the 'low hanging fruit' codexes they knew weren't receiving any major new model support this edition in this first half, but that they also needed to wait a bit on writing Guard and Eldar so that they could integrate their 10.0 learning a bit more and avoid either book landing with too much or too little disruption overall. Giving the benefit of the doubt to the team, it sounds like the Eldar book may have JUST gotten a printing sign-off, and with a reasonable degree of knowledge about where they will land in the meta-game after points are next updated and Guard arrive in full force. In sum, I've waited 30 years for plastic Spiders. I'm happy to wait 6 months more if it means that they are released in a good state into a game that is also in a good state. I think it was a bit of a mistake to call last night a preview for all the games though, especially when some of those 'previews' were literally 'we will release models for this game next year'. Cheers, The Good Doctor. Flaherty
I agree that the content was thin and frustrating, but I'm just astonished by how lame the production was. This is an event for your super fans, not a general audience. They're staying up late to watch a 30-minute program about toy soldiers. There is a good chance they watch YT shows or listen to podcasts about this IP and have a general sense of what is coming, but you just ladle out boring marketing copy through the mouths of designers who aren't particularly well-trained presenters? Don't have creators unless they talk about the designs in a way that sheds some interesting light on the creation process. Disney has this down to a science, showing how characters evolve during design, the real-world inspirations for their characters and settings, and little glimpses of the creator's workflow. If nothing else, have some b-roll of concept sketches for the new designs, or those obscured revolving shots that give a sneak preview. Codex art, for goodness sake! They're too big a company for such low effort productions! Where exactly do you all think GW is going to go from here? How are they going to. 1. Release a game worth paying to play. 2. Updates to your army worth paying for. 3. Support every other product line. 4. Start the cycle over every 3 years. I dont know, but I dont like how it looks at all. DemonGSides
If 11th is as close as everyone thinks, I'm guessing it won't be an index release and you'll be able to bring forward your 10th codexes, akin to how it worked back in the day. crimsondave
You know, the more I think about this the more I think the dust up is due 90% to poor execution. They didn’t even show the roadmaps on the show. That by itself would have helped. For the old world it showed High Elves on the road map and, unless I missed it, they never mentioned it on the show. Instead of saying Blood Angels for 2024 also mention Mandrakes, Night Lords, Christmas boxes, etc. I get the frustration at the delay on the codexes but surely 11th isn’t another reset so the codexes should be usable for a while. Just GW stepping on their privates again. INKS
I mean you'll be able to use those 10th ed I guess until they re-release them for 11th? But each edition is a reset of sorts. new and updated rules and so on. Mid 2025 until 2026, you won't get much time with your army. this isn't new, just how it is. But it's not good. These editions really should be longer than 3 years considering how long it takes to release everything. These editions really should be longer than 3 years considering how long it takes to release everything. The "old codexes don't work in the new edition" is a new paradigm starting with 8th. Prior to that, one of the main complaints people had in 7th was that they were still using 6th Ed codexes. The change from 8th to 9th probably could've supported cross edition codexes. Honestly, 10th probably could've as well besides the stat updates; crusade rules and other things are pretty easy to port forward. If they want to distance from 10th quickly, their best bet would be to let people continue using their codexes and let 11th be just a rules clean-up and consolidation, while the actual mechanics of the game don't change much if at all; 10th is really just a modification of 8th, but the addition of stats like OC and the moving to keywords were large enough to matter so I get it. But going forward, I'd they think 10th mechanics are sound under the hood, then I could see backwards compatible codexes. jaxom, Kallas and INKS 2 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/383513-nova-open-preview-august-28th29th/page/13/#findComment-6060998 Share on other sites
RWJP
The change from 8th to 9th probably could've supported cross edition codexes. It did. 9th Edition was a variation on 8th, and 8th Edition books remained valid well into 9th Edition until they were replaced by new ones, no different to how things worked between 3rd and 7th. Hell, for a while we even had that Content Validity document that had to lay out when certain content from 8th stopped being valid in 9th. Marshal Rohr
Given that 10th is the most widely panned edition since 7th and is inspiring zero confidence in GW rules design while simultaneous giving us the worst marines since centurions it only makes historical sense that this is the edition GW decides to change their product life cycle and move to five or six years between editions so we can all keep enjoying 10th for another four years! SvenIronhand
Honestly, I do think the sheer pace of releases was bound to peter out eventually or that other games would get daddy's attention eventually, but the roadmaps are just badly designed. They're not big on specifics and that creates FUD (fear, uncertainty, doubt) in the hobbyist discourse. I am looking forward to more IG kits, IG. Aeldari have recently become a fascination of mine, but I am going to sit pretty for the time being. Borbarad
Wait! What's up with all those previews we have been getting in few months, pointing to some kind of (dark) mechanicum or thousand sons release? According to the roadmap that one would over 10 months away, if nothing new gets released until end of year? What it comes down to is that anything could really happen, just up to GW at this point. I remember that rumor engine that was a part of the necron overlord with translocate shroud. GW showed off that rumor engine and hung on to that model for what was it...like 2-3 years? I don't think it would be that long however, IMHO what makes it different in my mind is that GW also dropped the heavy hint in a white dwarf lore article a month or 2 ago about t.sons getting new bots. But these days, who knows.
