The rules for signatures have been updated. You can see the full rules here, but here's a summary of the changes:

  • Text line count has been reduced from 10 to 5; if you use anything larger than 16 point font, that maximum line count will be lower than 5 (based on 80/font size, rounded down)
  • References to BBCode now refer to formatting options (and remove those options that are no longer available)
  • Non-compliance will result in signatures being edited/removed (as opposed to being put in the code BBCode tags, which are no longer available)

The main change was the first bullet, highlighted in yellow. The other changes were due to the loss of BBCode.

Why did we make this change?

Basically, we're seeing a lot of signatures taking up way too much vertical space, degrading the signal-to-noise ratio that our signature rules are intended to mitigate. The source of that vertical space is excessive text. Members that want to communicate about themselves (or whatever) are encouraged to use their About Me page, keeping their signatures lean.

But wait, there's more...

We're seeing a lot of broken image links in signatures. These, too, are "noise" and need to be fixed, either finding the correct URLs for the images or removing the broken links. It has been 2 years since the software upgrade and the breaking of the image links, more than long enough for everything to be fixed.

Members will have 2 weeks (from the date of this post) to adjust their signatures to comply with the updated rules.

Still receiving since update some non compliance indication for image size whereas the image is set at 140 width and 93 height (inicial size was 150 width for 100 height and was also giving non compliance message,  so I interprete that the system does no consider yet the 990 width formating rule...).

  • This image is larger than the maximum allowed dimensions of x 100.

Prior to this, the system only allowed a max image height of 100 pixels (though I recall a few instances where members used larger images and the height was manually reduced to 100 pixels). The maximum width of 990 pixels was added just now.

What method are you using to add the image to your signature where you receive the error? Are you entering the URL? Or are you pasting the image into your signature?

I was able to add the image to your signature without getting the error. I don't know if that's how you want everything to be arranged, though. If you play around with it and get the error again, please include screenshots so we can figure out why you're getting that error and determine a solution. The same goes for anyone else having problems including any images in their signatures.

Just a final heads up - I'll start cleaning up signatures tomorrow. If I have to edit, you're not guaranteed to get something you like, so if your signature has broken image links or more than 5 lines of normal sized text (including blank lines), it would behoove you to edit it yourself to get something that you'll be satisfied with as opposed to being left with whatever my eviscerator leaves.
