So, now that the new Sanguinary Priests can join Hellblasters, I am considering running a Liberator Assault Group with a core of 30 Hellblasters, 3 Lieutenants, and three SPs.

Not only can all three squads Advance and shoot if required (and with a Strat, one can Charge after advancing), they can fall back and shoot and Charge, thanks to the Lieutenants. With Red Thirst and the -1 AP from the SP, 10  Hellblasters + Lt + SP are putting out 46 x S6 AP-1 Dmg1 attacks and 5 x S10 AP-3 Dmg2 attacks on the charge, all with Lethal Hits. Combine that with 20 Plasma shots at 24" and Oath of Moment on a priority target and they can be very dangerous to a whole range of units in the game. Finally, with the 5+++ FNP, they are literally 33% more durable than normal, making the Hellblasters even more capable than usual.

Combine this with some distraction Carnifexes (I am thinking a couple of Vindicators and a couple of Invictor Tactical Warsuits), plus some supporting units like Scouts, Incursors, and Gladiator Lancers for ranged anti-Tank and maybe a Dante/SG squad and I think I have the makings of an effective, if a bit unorthodox, BA list that I am excited to try out!

Nope. Never mind I was wrong

Just found an old copy of the index on my phone. Carry on!

I haven't seen the new SP datasheet yet, and don't have the old one to hand to double check, but IIRC you can't have a SP and a Lt. leading the same unit, can you? You can have a Lt. or SP join a unit lead by a captain, but not each other.

Wrong about rules

It might work. The on the new Priest implies he can join a squad led by a Lt.

Actually it is even better than that. Each wound you save is another wound you can try to save again so the benefit is cumulative. The maths is a bit complex but a 5+++ is actually closer to a 50% increase in durability. You will need to inflict 30 wounds to kill a 20-wound squad.

I forgot that there is also a LAG strat that gives Lance, so those Hellblasters could be charging with 46 x S6 AP-1 and 5 x S10 PF attacks attacks, all with +1 to wound... pretty amazing close combat capabilities for a squad that is supposed to be a largely shooting focused unit! By my count, they could even bring down a Hive Tyrant in close combat by themselves in melee (even without shooting it first).

Agree on the high points, probably drop the Lieutenants and just keep the SPs and Hellblasters.

For the rest of the army, looking at a couple of Invictor Warsuits, a squad of Scouts, a squad of Incursors, a Stormspeeder Thunderstrike (for giving the HBs +1 to wound vs Monsters/Vehicles), Dante and Sanguinary Guard (as a fast, durable counter-charge unit), and a Centurion squad (for ranged anti-Tank fire base).

Definitely non-traditional for Blood Angels, but excited to try it out!
