Accidentally putting the new GSC range on display in Warhammer World

There's a clear winner - the original Primaris leak. It sparked off an insanely toxic, argumentative thread where people were slinging insults at each other, constantly claiming it was a conversion, etc. The thread got fragged a while back so it's long gone, but to this day it's still the funniest thread that's ever existed on the forum. Bar maybe that thread where people tried to come out and defend Arch.

 

 

Beyond that, I'm still partial to the old Mortarion leak.

Going back many years here, when an early copy of Codex:Armageddon was sold at a charity raffle at a GW Nottingham HQ open day event in April 2000, nearly 3 whole months before it went on sale, and subsequently leaked all over the internet.

My local GW manager was convinced when I used to go to veteran's night that I was the guy that painted the GW Space Marines for the codices (which was I believe Spikey James from the Spikey Club in Reading which is near where I lived). No matter what I told him he didn't believe me and use to tell me loads of stuff before he moved to a different store.

I'd go with this one personally although I think the Magnus model box in the recycling bin was the first one that really shocked me as you could clearly see it came from within the studio whether it was intentional or not.  To be honest though I am not really a fan of leaks.

There was a really old leak back during late 5th or early 6th that predicted a bunch of space marine stuff that seemed like it was real wish listy, stuff like new flyers and tanks, one between the size of a land raider and a rhino, and a bunch of other stuff, at the time it ended up being written off as just rumors, but then the Sicaran and the Xiphon came out, and I wanted to go back and find that list, but never could. In retrospect, I feel like that might have been a bunch of heresy stuff that was just being worked on, but without that original thread, who's to say?

Agreed, the Primaris leak comes out on stop specifically because of the thread. I remember how awful that thread got. I do sometimes wonder if some of the worst offenders ate any humble pie when Primaris showed up.

Yeah that was a bad one, it appeared pre Christmas and had been floating around 6+ months before being addressed.

About 5 years ago, there was a leak of new Slaanesh daemon models (think it was fiends) due to someone finding pictures of a partial sprue that had spare components on it, and sharing pics online. The one I remember was when GW was in it's 'great firewall' information mode about 12-13 years ago, with absolutely no warning of new releases and setting C&Ds on fan sites that somehow got news of releases.

 

There was a hand drawing of a new Necron mini, I think shown on Beasts of War, and it caused all sorts of ruckus - might have been talk of it causing a falling out with Wayland Games as well? (There was some time after that they didn't have photos of GW products on the site). But it was just the funniest thing as it was just over this quite crude pen drawing of a skull-faced thing, but everyone was so desperate for any news as GW was sewn up tighter than a gnat's bottom at the time and just nothing coming out

 

*Few details may be wrong as have been a few pints of grog between now and then!

I might be misremembering things (it was... 6 years ago?) but I recall that people were still denying the existence of Primaris even when someone leaked photos from the 8th edition painting set guide - complete with colour photos of several Primaris marines on the painting table. Done up as 3rd company Ultramarines IRRC - which in itself was fuel for the people believing them to be conversions because "why would GW ever paint Ultramarines as anything other than 2nd company?" 

 

 

I think my favourite leak was the 5th edition space marine codex in 2006. Not as visually exciting or flashy as a lot of these modern leaks given that it predated the PotatoCamera (TM), but it was an interesting time.

For those not old enough to remember, someone over the space of  about a month revealed every new unit that would be in the new 5th edition marine codex, without actually naming them. No photos, just written descriptions of everything which would eventually turn out to be largely accurate, e.g. "tank commander in old armour" = Srgt Chronus, "techmarine and weapons platform" = thunderfire cannon, "bearded old man scout leader" = Telion, etc. Highlight was when they would occasionally answer/rebuff questions in Latin, like pointing out  (in Latin) that they hadn't stated or implied that the Ultramarines captain character was Sicarius, but if people wanted to think that he wouldn't stop them. It was the first (and 18 years later, so far only) time I'd used my classic Latin since being taught it in school...

I got told about that one and shown the pictures way in advance of the leak and my jaw hit the floor when I was shown the pics. Thing is that it was a camera phone picture of a Teams meeting which is why it was such poor quality. The original had everyone in the meetings name displayed along with the person who leaked it's Instagram details on. There is a lot more to the Heresy community than meets the eye in terms of connections I hadn't considered and people would had lost jobs had the full picture ever leaked. Sitting on that one when the community was at it's lowest in terms of hope for the future wasn't easy.

There was a fun one pre 9th when a thumbnail blown up of the new Primaris army pic with outriders, tanks etc was leaked and the community went full Zapruder Tape trying to work out what was what

I remember fondly a big leak a few years ago that predicted a lot. I think everything apart from new Chaos Bikers turned out accurate. 

 

It seems like we have fewer leaks now. Perhaps GW has tightened up a bit.

Every single release is preceded by a Valrak video that is almost always mostly accurate
