I’m not sure if it was “the best,” but my very favorite was the year or so in early 3rd Ed where nearly-complete Codex information kept leaking early because the “internal” site where GW kept its development/playtest material was, in fact, open to anyone with a web browser.

Thinking back to ye older days

The entirety of the 5e ork codex was poster on warseer about 6 months before it was released

My own claim to fame is posting on warseer about vanguard veterans and describing the relic blade armed sgt because I found a design document with them photo'd in a mail order box I'd received.

Does it count if the leaks don't leave the company?

When I was a key-time youth in GW retail our shop manager had been to head office and came back with an illicit copy of the 3rd edition 40k rules from somebody he knew. From the lack of layout, illustrations etc. I assume it was a playtest document. After we locked up the four of us took some miniatures from the cabinets and tried them out. I don't remember if I formed an opinion of the rules but I felt like such an insider.

For me the pic of the AoD box contents a full year in advance, and of course the playtest docs (with cheeky names) in spring 22. However I imagine the latter has negative repercussions :(

The long, long silence after the AoD box leak before those play test rules slipped out I think helped convince a lot of people they were fake. I myself was beginning to wonder if I’d hallucinated the box set images, it took so long for them to be formally announced.

Thinking about it again, my favour GW Lean is a nonexistent one.

Every time I’ve been into a GW/Warhammer store and had a long conversation with staff, I’ve always been told that a ‘Plastic Thunderhawk is possible, and probably only a few years away’.

Ahh, the Primaris leak. I'd also forgotten about Bin-Magnus, and the potato cam video, wish GW could recover some of that humour! Some of the ones I have the best memories of were the old BA 5th ed codex, which was rumoured to lean heavily into the horror/vampire novel aesthetic, and had things like wild techmarines with abominations, other cool bits, but more importantly a flying land raider, which pre-empted the stormraven in the book by a year or so.

Deepstriking land raiders it turned into didn't it?

I remember the initial Ogre Kingdoms leak waaay back on Portent. Photos emerged of the Ogre Bulls kit, next to a chaos warrior. It ended in a similar situation as the Primaris thread here, people swearing blind that there was no way GW were going to release an army all on 40mm bases and the photo must be a conversion.

I remember that amazing meme of Dante scredding away on a guitar on a flying Land Raider. Good times.

I'd force an AI to make an updated rendition of this image but it would just upset people. Just stay here for a few weeks and pretend my post is still relevant when my commission piece comes through!  *

*Nope, not an AI Bro, just having a bit of fun. Though saying that, making a commission to make a really grand, serious-looking version of this ridiculous meme would amuse me greatly. I'm weird and currently sleep deprived so there is that...

I remember many moons ago, many editions ago, there was an alternative rule set that was labelled a leak and folk were adamant that it was legit and were playing it already. It had all sorts of fluff nonsense about Ultramarines getting wiped out of the Imperium and going rogue with their own faction, stuff like that.

It was a false leak but it was funny seeing forum goers arguing that it was true then never saying a word about it.
