Agramar_The_Luna_Wolf
I have 4 legion command squad. Well, in fact two and another two banners to make a bike or a cataphractii squad a command one. The official ones, let's say in this way, are one full of lighting claws and combat shields, except standard bearer who use power fist and the other one uses all power weapons and combat shields. 8 members each. But I'm looking for more ideas and opinions. People uses legion command squads? And what type of it? What the builds? Transport or not? I think the actual box is excellent,in miniatures term, and about rules is a really good option fir nearly any army. Tell me your experiences/thoughts. Aspecti
I'm building three command squads; tartaros, cataphractii and power armored. Tartaros squad will have 3 thunder hammers and 2 double lightning claws, not sure about combi weapons yet. Cataphractii command squad will also have 3 hammers and probably 2 chain fists. I have Praetors in each armor to join their respective command squads and also a Land Raider Proteus for transport, or a Rhino for the power armored squad. I've built a few guys for the power armored command squad with boarding shields, but I'm planning to magnetise most of their weapon options so I can run them cheap or fully kitted. dicebod
I use one for my Space Wolves, all mounted on jetbikes. Mounted command squads are great buys because they score, have 2+ saves, better WS and better weapon options than the squad-based alternatives for not that many more points. For Space Wolves in particular they're even better, because with legion rules they get an additional +1 WS on the charge. Razorblade
Generally speaking I think command Squads need to spam hammers/fists in order to battle enemy elites. They also need an ivuln because they will attract a lot of lascannons and power fists. This leaves the mounted/jump pack versions pretty suboptimal as they can get combat shields at best (tough a delegatus with a very cheap mobile command squad to kill enemy troops on objectives might work). Regular guys with boarding shields and fists are pretty good, especially since you can get more of them in both the squad and into a Lamd Raider but the lack of Hammers hurts. Tartaros have the same defensive profile and access to Hammers but only 5 guys a squad. Cataphractii are generally the Gold standard with both a 4+ invuln and access to Hammers. No sweeping advances shouldn't be much of an issue since the targets you want to engage do not tend run anyway. If however, you can get access to +1 Movement, artificer and tartaros look a lot more appealing since they will also get +1 to charge rolls Agramar_The_Luna_Wolf and Mana 2 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/383695-legion-command-squad-build-uses-etc/#findComment-6060476 Share on other sites
arnesh88
I plan on creating a legion command squad for my white scars with jump packs. I think with bikes they're a little too expensive and clunky to position. If so, I will probably attach them to a Delegatus vs a Praetor (praetor will be with another squad) and treat them like Assault Veteran Squads. A couple of Power Fists to get past FNP and a few pairs of lightning claws, I don't want to load them out too much to keep relatively cheap and make it less likely that an opponent will target them when there's juicier/more dangerous units to target. I would rather they harass power armour units/light-medium vehicles. Mana
... (tough a delegatus with a very cheap mobile command squad to kill enemy troops on objectives might work) ... I was thinking of something like that, a Delegatus in a command squad with 7 chosen with Power Axes and combat shields for 156 points. I am under no Illusion of them surviving much combat with elite units, was thinking more of a reactive unit to deal with troops and units not at full strength. Since I have the shields from the plastic Assault Squad kit, I might as well use them, combat shields are the worst possible invulnerable save (1/6 chance is horrible honestly), but at least it's a inv. save and not that expensive, and to me they look great. My reasoning for the Power Axes is that the unit will focus troops, so at most they will have to deal with a sergeant with a power fist, but hitting at 5+, so might as well go all out with the 5 points power weapon. I made some chances to my Terror Assault detachment of Night Lords, was originally gonna take 2 squads of 15 tacticals, but I'm dropping one squad, and using those bodys to make the 7 man command squad and another recon squad with nemesis bolters (Will 3 recon squads with nemesis bolters in a list be too much??). Now That I think about it I should take a Nuncio-vox in the command squad to maintain the 10 ld from the Legion Standard. ... If so, I will probably attach them to a Delegatus vs a Praetor (praetor will be with another squad) ... I think that if you include a Delegatus you can't include a Praetor in the same detachment (it's a Delegatus rule), but you can have a Praetor in the allied detachment with another faction. Galron
I have finally gotten down to the point of building my HQs. I havent decided yet on Sevatar with 5 Tartaros command squad with hammers+ tart librarian and chaplain OR 5 contekar tart herald and Librarian, OR a 9 man Power armor command squad with a few with boarding shields and a couple power fists, the rest with paired lightning claws + librarian and chaplain. All will be riding in a Kharybdis. I assume I can attach both extra characters to it in the big pod.
