were they "Krieg" ogryns?

Expand

The lore is never that specific for ogryns, leaving a big gap for players to say if they were or weren't.

They would just be assigned axillaries.

There's a huge difference between mutants that are hated and despised and abhumans:yes:

Even navigators are sanctioned mutants:tongue:

I think they will always leave things like ogryns and rough riders as 'generic'. Otherwise only a niche amount of players will buy them.

Players often kitbash units like rough riders to fit in with their regiment anyway. I have pith helmets for my ogryns:tongue: (not that they get used:laugh:)

Ogryns have never been part of specific guard forces, they are an auxiliary unit who can be attached to any regiment as required, in the same way that a krieg unit could also have a few squads of scions attached to them. They aren't krieg scions, they are just attached to the unit.

If I remember rightly in vraks both sides had ogryns, the imperium ones weren't from krieg, they were just attached to the units. I think they did wear gasmasks because that was the nature of the conflict so they looked like krieg

Expand

Still can't find a source on that. (I haven't read any of Lyons take on it) Only that Vraks as a planet had lots of ogryns.

Krieg aren't just gas masks anyway, and as for not being part of specific guard forces, sure.

Hence why "Krieg Ogryns" seems like a bad idea.

And besides, the current kit has masks already if that's all you want.

So I went into my local GW today to kill time before a meeting and they asked what I'm working on.
I said "Krieg"

Then the staffer (not manager) replied:

"Did you hear about the new heavy weapon teams they're getting?"

Feel free to speculate on that.
Sounds like it might be a decent sized release if they are doing HWT.

Sounds pretty likely they will do a full Krieg army. That sounds pretty good to me. I wasn’t interested in buying slightly different Cadians when I already have a ton of the old ones, but building a Krieg section would be sweet.

I need to check my ever growing wishlist though because there’s far too much on it already

I’ve just been playing Space Marine 2 and it’s absolutely full of Earthsaker emplacements, I’m yet to see a basilisk, which has me wondering whether they’ll be reintroduced with a plastic kit with Krieg

Space Marine 2 also has the old style Cadians, sentinels etc, so I'd say it looks more into the past than the future of the table top game.

Not to mention Krieg are known for carriages not emplacements.

Yeah I hadn’t come across the discontinued powerlift sentinel upon posting. For me the cadians are somewhere inbetween the old design and the current one. I’ve seen carriages too though, not just the emplacements, should have been clearer.

Or it’s just some dork who saw a rumor on 4chan or Reddit

I’m thinking we’ll see a Marshal model, Command Squad, and Heavy Weapon Squad at the very least. I’d hope we’d get an upgrade sprue with things like tank crew, crew for the ordinance battery, parts to turn the basic kit into engineers with shotguns etc, and hopefully bits to build a heavy flamer team and mole mortar and such. What I’d also love to see but think is unlikely would be a Commissar miniature with gas mask.

I think commisar head with gas mask could show up on the upgrade sprue and then you can either slap it on a DKoK body or just slap it on a Commisar body.

That’s a lot, and unlikely to all come in one go.

probably an upgrade sprue or two for tank crews, and HWSes, Marshall and engineers, maybe thudd gun kit.

Personally I’m very excited for Krieg.

I believe that if we don’t get at least one Krieg specific artillery piece and Deathriders it’ll be an abject failure.

I doubt it’ll be Quadlaunchers or Heavy Mortars as these are very similar to the new Ordnance Batteries.

I’ll remain cautiously optimistic and hope for a major release!

Let’s face it a plastic Krieg range would be a license to print money!

With the FOBs here now, there aren’t really any options that aren’t *too* much like an artillery unit that already exists in the game.

That’s exactly what I’m saying @TheArtilleryman

They could literally use the sculpts from the old Forgeworld Carriages or even produce something new and unique!

Either way I’m in it for the Great War aesthetic, mass infantry supported by Cavalry and Artillery.

Hopefully there’ll be a “Siege Regiment” Detachment in the Codex which caters for the Krieg style of Warfare.

Oh yeah of course, I don’t expect to see them. Just a thought, for the flavour. I remember seeing the Medusa batteries used a lot in competitive play recently, so maybe they could be a contender? Dunno

If you recently saw them in competitive play then they’re already available in game and probably won’t be dropped with this release.

They're Forgeworld resin models. A lot of those have been legend'd on Codex release for various armies. And given the huge amount of FW stuff the Guard has access too, it's basically guranteed that at least some of it will go.

I thought legends wasn’t allowed in tournaments because of their lack of support.

I don’t know. I just remember an article or thread about a recent tournament where the Medusas were used a lot together with the reinforcements stratagem because they have the infantry keyword.

Not all FW models are automatically Legends. Guard has a huge FW range that's tournament legal, for something like Custoses FW makes up half their available army.

When our Codex comes it's just very likely that a lot of stuff will be moved to Legends. Especially the things that came out of the old Siege of Vrax books, considering Krieg is getting a refresh.

I fear hoping for Death Riders might be a little to much. I don't think there'd be an appreciable enough difference between them and Rough Riders to justify a new kit. I think it's possible, or even likely, that they will come out with a Death Korps 'upgrade pack' similar to the one that currently exists for Cadians and the first founding chapters that will have gas-mask heads you can swap on your Rough Riders. But I just don't see a plastic kit for Death Riders as being in the cards.

One thing I do believe might be is a Death Korps named character.
Right now we have:
Leontus (new and plastic)
Gaunt and company (new and plastic)
Ursula Creed (new and plastic)
-
Sly Marbo (Resin)
Straken (Metal)
Harker (Metal)

With the Catachan named characters up in the air on if they will stay, I wouldn't be surprised if someone from Krieg with a name joined the roster.
