Vanguard Vets in 10th, how would equip them? Would you kit-bash or wait?

The fact we all accept and await the inevitable 3 year cycle is dismaying. I was hoping Van Vets would be released soon as I expect them to be great models.

You either accept it, spend years screaming into the void, or you quit the game in protest.

There’s one more option we’ve actually discussed; pick the edition we like the most (as a group) and stick with that. We were considering playing some 8th edition games just for throwback.

Sure but that won't bring out Primaris Van Vets any sooner. And playing 10th edition won't prevent you from using the existing models, even if their wargear has been abstracted.

Yeah that’s kind of my point. The model production and development can continue on its way, it would just be really nice to have stability in an edition for more than 3 years. Especially for those “end of edition” codex armies that maybe get to use their codex for like six months.

Again, reliant on like minded people in a group agreeing.

Honestly I would just kit-bash Vanguard veterans at this point if I had to have the unit right now. I'd arm them with simple load outs that could be broken off and replaced down the road (chainswords and bolt pistols).

I'm back to being unmotivated with 40k, and fed up with all the nonsense from GW, that I'm back to thinking I'll just have my Black Templars and finish up my time in the hobby with them. I'm so tired of building models for a new collection, and the thought of all the work and huge money cost of another 5-6k army has me saying no thanks. It's just the same old crap over again for the umpteenth time since 2012.

It's funny, I am actually enjoying 10th edition more than the tail end of 9th. I mourn the loss of a few units for sure but the balance between armies seems to be much better (although it took a while to get there). Also I like the reduction of stratagems and the spread of unit abilities. Games seem to revolve less around daisy-chaining stratagems and killer combos together. The increase in durability mean vehicles are worth fielding again after almost going extinct in 8th/9th editions. Not saying 10th is perfect but overall I am finding it an improvement and more fun in general.

Yep, it's a cleaner game. It plays like a more refined 9th which is fine by me. I miss more granular points but at the same time I do enjoy being able to build an army list in five minutes if need be.

There's definitely problems, but the actual dice rolling is fun and most of the units have at least some use, even if there's still some balancing stuff to figure out. I'm hopeful they don't flush it all away with a too quick flip to 11th but they probably will. Or if they do, let it be more like 6th/7th where your codex stayed relevant until a newer one dropped.

6th/7th and 8th/9th both retained their codices as the editions changed so I am hopeful that the same will hold true this time. I guess that we will have to wait and see.

I do think 10th edition is the smoothest and possibly most streamlined playing (in a good way) edition since I've been in the hobby with 6th. In hindsight I do think removing the Psychic Phase and neutering psykers down to basically just units with a ranged attack was not a good move for the "feel" of the new edition. I miss the psychic phase and feeling like psykers were a more special or unique unit on the tabletop.
