I love my modular 2x2 boards and never feel right playing on anything other than 6x4 or 8x4. The new sizes are just weird and irregular, never made sense to change them. I find it makes the board feel very crowded.

I’ve never played on less than 6’x4’ table.  I have too may good mats.

At 15:40 he confirms while maybe 8’x4’ wasn’t prescribed in the rules it was common pre 3rd edition.

 

The reason for that is 8'x4' is the standard size that sheets of chipboard are sold in at builder's merchants.

I can confirm that.  I remember my Dad looking at me funny when I told him I needed a sheet of plywood.

Yeah. I get why they’d want to change it to a more “regular kitchen table” size, but coupled with the larger armies and bases of later editions it does become a bit crowded.

I kinda noticed this with seeing Legions Imperialis battle reports.

Like it's a bit too extreme with LI, but the breathing room is refreshing to look at with combat over open areas.
