Popular Post Agramar_The_Luna_Wolf
Paul Sawyer, "Fat Bloke" has brain cancer, Nick Davis said in Twitter this afternoon, and sadly only a real miracle can save him. It so terrible and sad read this. I really love his time in the White Dwarf Magazine, the longest editor served on it I belive. He is a true legend and a really nice person. Personally I'm totally devastated. I don't have more proper words now. Sorry. https://x.com/alt_world/status/1830981990658576818 Paul himself tell this from FB: Edited September 3 by Agramar_The_Luna_Wolf Gamiel, DemonGSides, BadgersinHills and 48 others 3 13 35 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/383894-very-bad-news-from-paul-sawyer/ Share on other sites

Agramar_The_Luna_Wolf
Horrible, horrible news. I’m heartbroken for him and his family. I remember his daughter from the WD, in an article for The Tale of Four Players. She was a little baby in that time. TheWarmaster
No, that's awful news! Fat Bloke was such a massive part of my childhood as Editor of White Dwarf! Honestly, in my opinion that was White Dwarf's golden age, as well as Warhammer in general. I loved seeing his White Scars armies appearing in the magazine. That's genuinely made me sad. roryokane, LSM, MithrilForge and 8 others 1 9 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/383894-very-bad-news-from-paul-sawyer/#findComment-6062112 Share on other sites

phandaal
Man, that is rough. Fat Bloke, his "Tale of Four Gamers" articles back in the day, and his approach to gaming in general were a formative part of my hobby life. May his contributions live on for many years to come. calgar101, Redrandy93, Bev'an and 2 others 1 4 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/383894-very-bad-news-from-paul-sawyer/#findComment-6062121 Share on other sites

calgar101
'Fat Bloke' was the best editor for WD and I loved his articles, especially when he built his Chaos warband. Ahhh such good memories! What an absolute loss to our hobby and to his family. Such terrible news, my heart goes out to you and your family. I'll treasure his old articles even more now. *raise a salute* Cenobite Terminator, Kallas, Firedrake Cordova and 6 others 1 4 4 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/383894-very-bad-news-from-paul-sawyer/#findComment-6062123 Share on other sites

MithrilForge
I do remember him fondly from WD and loved his White Scars , i remember reading one of the articles many years ago and reading that he lost the game but was going to commiserate himself with a Chip Butty (being an Aussie and non UK person i was like what the hell is a Chip Butty ??? but when I found out I went and made myself one ) So I will say Thankyou Paul Sawyer AKA Fat Bloke for your wonderful work at GW and making me love White Scars and for Introducing me to Chip Butty's Cheers, Mithril Pacific81, Doghouse, Alby the Slayer and 3 others 1 5 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/383894-very-bad-news-from-paul-sawyer/#findComment-6062139 Share on other sites

roryokane
This is dire news. Like many of the other commentators, WD featuring "Fat Bloke's" White Scars remain core memories back during the peak of 3rd ed and into 4th, along with the Tale of Four Gamers. Captain Caine 24th
There's an increasingly short list of names remembered from long ago. I think fondly of those battle reports. Even to this day my old friends recall fat bloke. Thanks for all the memories Paul Sawyer. I suppose none of us really know when our number is up. I'll see if I can't scrounge up old white dwarf issues on eBay. I hope GW does a nice write up on him. The_Worker
Yes, it is a terrible thing. The bright side I suppose is that he is able to plan for his death and to ensure he and his family make the most of what time he has left. I too have many great memories of his time at White Dwarf and articles such as the Tale of Four Gamers or his series on his Chaos Warrior army led by Vradchuk. His stuff was inspirational - still is!
