His tenure as editor of White Dwarf will always be regarded as the peak of their content. He really humanised GW's face, and his editorial columns always made me laugh, such as the trip to the US with his beastmen army. Wargaming as a whole is the poorer for his loss.

His time as editor on White Dwarf was a period of wonder and delight.  Paul set such a high standard during his tenure that the magazine, try as it might, has never reached again.  Vale “Fat Bloke”.  You will be missed.

Paul Sawyer was one of my Hobby Heroes and im glad i have many issues of WD from when he was Editor in Chief of the Magazine... i was finding my stride in Warhammer 40K in the early 2000s and was building and converting stuff alot... i only knew the old Kingston 40K crowd back in those days... before FB and the massive global communities on there became our 2nd home to discuss hobby matters and even before that id only started posting on B&C in January 2007... before i was doing much online id just be sat at my desk late nights building and painting models... once a week id pop to GW in the evenings for Veterans Gaming Night... in those early days i was buying WD often and that whole era of WH40K was very important to me... things have changed and the Hobby has evolved but even now ill open an old issue of WD and read it with a huge grin remembering those early days now over 20 years ago! im no longer a young lad in my 20s but finding Paul on FB years later was amazing... there are a few of the old Guard from GW who i count on my FB but learning of Pauls Brain tumour and his struggles with it was very sad yet he showed great stoicism and bravery and simply got on with it...

i truly hope there is a Heaven somewhere... where ill find my Cat Zorro... and my Mum and some long lost old Friends... i hope when i find that place they have a few gaming tables and dice... see you in Heaven Paul... but this place you leave behind seems a little quieter now...

may you always roll 6s when you need them...

Paul Sawyer’s tenure at WD had a big influence on me as a young gamer.

Even after GW he went on to do great things in wargaming.

I was sad to hear of his cancer diagnosis, and even sadder now to hear he has passed.
