Testing out turbodork’s motherlode paint.

im hoping to have some opalescent SG when the new BA CP drops.

any way one coat on…not what I was hoping for so far, we’ll see what it looks like after a second and a third coat. Hopefully no more than that will be necessary.

painted the barding on the back half of the horse so, I could have a good comparison.

Second coat is on, will add a pic later.

its much more noticeable, but it’s what I would call a ‘color shift’ paint as it’s labeled, but more of a white gloss with multicolored metallic flecks/sparkles.

so it won’t exactly give the effect I wanted, but I think with a 3rd coat I’ll be satisfied with it.

I think turbo dork paints are usually supposed to be on glossy dark colors. When I used their color shifting orange to red I had to use a black primer

The mother lode says best over white undercoat

ironically it says not use it over black as it’ll just look green.

It might just be a trick of the camera, or it could be a really subtle effect, but I'm having a hard time seeing much of an effect..?

Yeah, that’s kinda the point I’m trying to make.

Even after 3 coats there’s not much to see, though it can be seen a little bit better in person than in pictures.

definitely doesn’t look anything like the example golem thing they show on the website.

Honestly seems like a lot of work for very little pay off

Are you sure there's nothing wrong with it? I mean, I guess you shaked and applied it properly and so on, so maybe you just got a bad pot? Because this really doesn't look like what three coats of, well anything, should look.

I checked some YT reviews and yeah the mother lode isn’t as strong as their other colors.

I do have to say it does look about 20-25% better in person, and one of the videos I’ve watched said it looks better in person as well

I find that some of the turbodork paints benefit from going on a bit thick - not so much that they will gum up detail but more than a standard paint.

That said, some I've used have a really subtle effect at best.

All look a lot better in hand or clips where the effects stand out than in still photos.

Yeah I think it will have to be a minimum of 5 layers each.

I found with Turbo Dork paint you have to be a bit generous with it as well. I bought Mother Lode but never actually used it on anything so it's interesting to see it in effect. I really want to try out "Sky Rat" on something. Space Pigeons marine chapter? Pigeon Dragon? I'm not sure but I'm a sucker for those sorts of colour shift effects. Maybe I could figure out a magpie feather effect and use it on the power weapons of some Blood Ravens?
