Mana
Specifically can I have a Divisio Questoris Knights as a primary detachment and an allied detachment of regular Mechanicum? Reading the errata, the sentence that said that you couldn't is gone, but I just wanted to be sure, as English is not my first language, or maybe there is another rule somewhere that forbids it. Mana
Well, It turns out you can't. After some more reading, in pg. 281 of the AOD rulebook it states you can't have an allied detachment of the same faction, and since the errata says Divisio Tactica army lists (like knights) count as a Mechanicum faction, it's just not possible. Only way to have Knights allied with Mechanicum is having the Divisio Questoris detachment as the allied detachment (which keeps the 25% limit for lords of war), and the primary detachment must be Mechanicum with an ArchMagos with the Archimandrite Order of High Techno-Arcana. Not what I wanted, but at least is possible in some way, shame that at 3000 points you can only take 1 big Knight in the allied detachment, but I suppose they want us to use Mechanicum Knights, hope they come in plastic soon. MARK0SIAN
It might be worth talking to your opponent. They might be cool with you doing that. There’s so many cool combinations in the lore that wouldn’t actually be possible in the rules (for example a force of Custodes, sisters of silence and mechanicum fighting together to represent the forces in the webway) that people might be willing to let you play it anyway as long as you weren’t doing it as an exploit to just run really powerful stuff, which I’m sure you’re not. I’d happily play against it as it sounds like a cool concept. Unknown Legionnaire
From the wording and the explanation in the rulebook FAQ on factions, I believe it works like this: - If you run a Mechanicum (let's call the base list 'Taghmata' as it was called in the past) primary detachment, you can run Questoris Knights or Titan Maniple as an optional detachment, no problem. - If you want to run an allied detachment of Mechanicum (Taghmata) with your Faction: Mechanicum primary detachment, you'd need an Archmagos Archimandrite in said primary detachment, which is something only Mechanicum (Taghmata) can do. This would theoretically mean, that you wouldn't be able to do so, if your primary detachmend was the Titan Maniple or Questoris Knights (since they can't take an Archimandrite). At least, that's how I understand it. But just like Markosian above, I'd also totally play your list if it wasn't some min-maxed cooky-cutter horse manure. Mana
Hey thanks! I always forget that I can simply talk it out with my would be opponent. I do prefer more narrative style of play anyway.
