Captain Titus
The ammunition tithe definetly needed to be scaled up, 2 containers of ammunition seems a bit silly. It would have made more sense if they showed other requisition teams heading down to other areas of the surface. But the overall feel of the episode was great, from the joy at seeing a munitions shipment arrive to the anger and depression at realising its a munitions requisition. The incompetence of the faceless bureaucracy tithing too much from too many worlds, and having to destroy the ammunition, was a good ending for how nonsensical the imperium is. It was very 40k and probably my favourite of the 3 episodes. Subtleknife
It's more a military sign of respect for rank rather than gender, especially here in the UK as far as I'm aware. Someone with more experience (as in, being in the actual armed forces) can clarify this if it's still the same, but when I were in the Air Cadets (many moons ago) we had a female Squadron Leader, and she was addressed as either Sir or Ma'am. Both were acceptable. So you'll probably find that any show or such based in the UK with the some kind of armed forces will have female ranking officers addressed as Sir. I would hope, having served in the British Army, it might make me somewhat of an expert on what the correct compliments are for officers . I can assure you that it is Ma'am for female officers and Sir for male. For me personally, I think it goes beyond the indoctrination of being in the Army. It irritates me as it is an incorrect use of the word. If you look at the definition of 'sir' you will see why. Now I suppose you could argue 38k years in the future etc, but that doesn't hold water for me as they are speaking English rather than Gothic. But it is a minor point, I still enjoyed the episode despite the butchering of the English language. To be fair on my part, it was 30 years ago when I was in the air cadets and things have either changed and moved on, or more likely they allowed it when they probably shouldn't have. A point to consider though, is that it must have been allowed somewhere long enough for ordinary Joe Public to run with it in so many shows etc? But it's good to know that there is always somebody to correct my heresy (and it's not the first time!) in this case yourself and Marshall Bretton.
