Hardknox - Never Regular updated grimdark 40k

So Roughly a year ago i started 2 Threads with the intent of regularly updating those said threads, well that didn't happen, life has a way of seeing to it that you get all the wrenches all the time.

 

Fast Forward to today i rediscovered my model passion yet again and it came in the form of Grimdark 40k and Deathguard and Rather than just cement this a deathguard thread i decided i'd try my hand at as many things grimdark as i could starting with a couple of kill team sized squads etc, just whatever takes my attention.

For me 5th edition was and always will be PEAK 40k and it seemed like GW somewhat had a soul. conversions ran rampant, proxy army lists in full effect. monopose only existed in metal Blister packs. so with very little structure in mind here's my first legitimate attempt at the GrimDark aesthetic in the 41st millenium:

So i finished out the Plague Marine Champion, Hit him with a mix of Crushed Pastels and Alcohol to create a Rust and Sludge mix.

They came out well - suitably nurgly and with strong Blanchitsu vibes

I like the kitbash a lot, even though he almost reads more like a rogue Inquisitor or Traitor Guard commander to me than as an Astartes -- I think the missing "bell bottom" lower legs will do that, as they are so emblematic of the Space Marine look.

 

The one piece of criticism I have is that I think your Rust and Sludge mix, while seeming like a very effective tool, has darkened the colours to the point where it all kinda blends together. Maybe starting with brighter colours would have worked better in this case?!

 

Sorry if it comes across as overly nitpicky -- it still seems like a very promising model!

 No offense taken friend! its definitely a Work in progress in regards to the Grimdark Style, i feel like i'd have had better luck with an Oil wash and mineral spirits for sure as i'd have been able to pull it back a little more than i was able to with just Alcohol.
 

I'm currently revising the recipe for sure but i'm also working on another Loyalist Marine as well so hopefully this will be a little Cleaner in regards to how Grim it gets, i really wanted to go overboard with the Nurgle Marine.

Little update on the Sigmarine!

and a years back i got my hands on some Hexbane Hunters when they were a part of the Warhammer underworlds game i think it was and attempted to make something akin to a 40k inquisitor squad:
 

 

 

 

 

 

And using a couple of free 3d models made a character thats a mixture of catachan and Mechanicus, Gives me a "hired gun" type vibe:
