Crimson Longinus
So Marneus Calgar has T6, his honour guard have only T4. But they're not an attached unit, they're part of the same unit. The rule is: Unit’s Toughness Characteristic: If an Attached unit contains models with different Toughness characteristics, for the purpose of determining that unit’s Toughness characteristic, use the highest Toughness characteristic amongst that unit’s Bodyguard models. If a non-Attached unit contains models with different Toughness characteristics, for the purpose of determining that unit’s Toughness characteristic, use the highest Toughness characteristic amongst all of that unit’s models. In either case, When resolving attacks against such a unit, determine that unit’s Toughness characteristic when it is selected as a target. So am I understanding correctly, that despite the honour guard having T4, the unit actually still has T6, so you're not actually going to ever use that T4 and it is printed in the datasheet just to confuse us? Dr_Ruminahui
Despite it being a potential source of confusion, there are edge cases where it matters - for example, Calgar could be killed by precision weapons leaving the unit at T4. Good point, though given Calgar's defensive profile whilst the honour guard are alive, this seems extremely unlikely situation to me. Nevertheless, my initial understanding is correct, and on their own, the unit just has T6, even though it has majority toughness of four? Though given that the honour guard are not an attached unit, can you allocate wounds to Calgar, before you allocate to them? Because they give Calgar FNP whilst alive, so it would actually make sense to take wounds on Calgar before the last honour guard, if that's possible, creating a situation where a lone honour guard might be left alive, thus having to use their T4. TrawlingCleaner
Interestingly, if Calgar and his honour guard aren't Attached to a unit Precision doesn't actually work on them as it's specifically only for Characters in Attached Units: Weird but someimes very useful! Xenith
A strange situation where Calgar is protecting his bodyguards? Sounds about right for space marines.
