Considering theres the full stormcast release to come for AoS, ad mech for LI, new mesbg, new blood bowl, new underworlds and the Christmas boxes, there's plenty to go at until 2025.

There's more than just 40k ;)

New Blood Bowl? I assumed the new version of LotR had taken up any big boxed game slot

Hot Take:

What if the huge gap in the 40k release schedule is filled by something utterly unexpected... Like a 40k based Warhammer Quest game?

I think they'd fly it under a 40k banner to keep it secret, and of course it would integrate with 40k just like BSF did.

I know it's a long shot, but that gap just seems too huge for me.

Let's further fuel the hot take that there is a pending servoskull rumor engine among the ( Christmas?) Rumor engines... and I don't think krieg uses those ? Though I could be wrong. But an inquisitor hero for whq would. However, im skeptical myself.. still a WHQ : Escape from Commoragh could hit so many flies with one stone. ( especially if the heroes are at least : Inquisitor, sos knight Centura, Harlequin troupemaster, Tau drone dude and Ork weirdboy :p ... hell thats even a very "cliche" quest hero group )

With the talk of the chaos gods, I know the next AOS release is std and its likely that, however that one doesn't specifically focus on the pantheon, wich the teaser heavily implies.

I'm wondering if in addition to BT StD there is a release like the earlier Slaanesh vs Khorne Realm of Chaos box, maybe even something bigger than that. Wich technically would also be a 40k release model wise ( and likely has 40k rules in the box or online ) even if it wasn't nor should have been on the 40k codex roadmap

EC has basically been confirmed for next year at this time.

But does that mean they can't be shown? I don't know the usual turnaround between 'look what's coming!' and 'look what's here!', if there is a usual turnaround at all.

The previews will follow the same format as the roadmaps, most of it will consist of them retelling us stuff they’ve already released or shown. I can just see it now:

”Well it’s been an exciting time for 40k, we released a new game to replace the original Rogue trader, and that’s not all! We then released lots of new models and another edition of that game! But wait there’s more, just when you thought we couldn’t give you any more 40k, we released a 4th edition of the game…… and so that brings us up to 10th edition. And what does the future hold for 40k you ask? All we can say is some stuff at some point between now and the eventual heat death of the universe! Wow, I can’t believe we showed so much in a single preview!”

As I pointed out all that is no different from other years, there has always been more than just 40k, this is not something that is suddenly a new thing this year. But even on the AoS family its a little less than usual.

Its true that the specialist/HH games especially seem to have more going on than usual... but GW always insisted this has no influence on the main ranges. I think however this is something that's no longer the case, and the big boom in horus heresy plastic, including LI actually does eat into AoS/40k "resources". It would be strange if it didnt actually.

How are they going to start teasing Emperor's Children now when there's two hefty releases we know are coming in the form of Guard and Eldar and then we know the Codex after those is Imperial Knights. That's going to last until at least March, and that's being very generous with the release windows.

And even if Emperor's Children were somehow a Q1 release, why would they show them now instead of the things they've explicitly stated are coming first?

Can't say I'm too excited for this after how the last few shows have gone. The pre-recorded stuff just doesn't get me as excited anymore as the other ones did, as bad as they could be.

I don't personally think it's going to be anything beyond the Christmas boxes for 40k, nothing I'm excited about. Even Krieg isn't up my alley, but I would be happy for those excited about it.

Kill Team is hard for me, I generally only like one of the teams, which means waiting for the individual release which could be who knows how long

And then no Heresy. Again, happy for those getting the LI releases, but with no 28mm heresy, I'm likely just to look at the article after it's all said and done

I could be excited for the Sorcerer, but I have a creeping feeling it's going to be aimed more at AoS than 40k

Lack of HH is hugely disappointing.

It kind of makes me wonder about another edition of Heresy (either full on new edition or a tweaking edition) due to the lack of releases. Goes back to the rumours/thoughts about stock piling stock for next year.

I'm just going to keep painting and stop hoping. I've got a lot to get through before anything else groundbreaking for 40k turns up.

Personally, I think this is the best approach. One of my pet peeves with 40K is the pace it can move at with releases and it would just be nice to paint stuff and enjoy it, without having to double check that you are using the right version of the rules.

My thoughts towards the preview:

40K - I'm not expecting much 40K and whatever we see, I think will be geared up towards the Krieg release. I think there will be an army box in November ready for general release in January. As mentioned, above - I'm not annoyed about this as it gives me chance to move at my own pace with stuff.

AOS - Really like the new edition of AOS, but I think this for me will be the big thing in regards of, will we see some new kits or just a token character model and battletome. I felt all the way through 3rd edition this was how they approached battletome releases and I found it annoying. Not sure what new kits will come out though as Slaves to Darkness already feels a whole range. Maybe something to do with Daemons? Does this link into 40K?

Kill Team - Kill Team looks great and I think this will just be a couple of new Kill Teams and probably a narrative book.

Legions Imperialis - I think we all can guess this will be the Adeptus Mechanicus reveal due to the leak! Quite excited about this one and this might end up being my Christmas present this year!

Warhammer Underworlds - New logo? So new edition of the game? I quite like Underworlds and loved it when it first came out. Then it suddenly became a CCG and I chose to avoid it (I used to play a lot of Magic!).

Overall, I'm not expecting to have my socks blown off but I think we will see some cool stuff. I think after the last preview, what I'm really hoping for and mentioned already is a change in pace for releases. My biggest bug bear with GW at moment is loads of stuff coming out but it's either out of stock or there is too much choice. I'm a Dad with limited hobby time. I just want to do a couple of things and could do with out the temptation!

Didnt they do this before with ( at least ) sisters of battle, leagues of votann and world eaters ? The teasing isn't always in order of release date.

With world eaters, the first tease was renders of chain axes, and I want to say in the very same article that it mentioned that Emperor's Children would get the same treatment in the not so near future. Then we got the Angron reveal but it's worth pointing out we should never have had the Angron reveal that early, it was only because it leaked that we saw him. I believe that had the picture not leaked, the angron reveal would have been held back till the reveal of the World Eaters in full...or the reveal of the second Arks of Omens book, whichever came first.

Introducing Leagues of Votann through an April's Fool video was pretty fun though  but even then, that was only 5 months ahead of the army set dropping (and the infamous James Workshop video).

In short, no emperors children teases (unless it's one pic of Lucius's sword) unless we get another leak that GW wants to get in front of.

On that note, I'm wondering if because this event is so close is the reason why GW have done nothing to address the LI AM leak.

I was thinking that and it's all been engineered for the LI leak but just looking at last year, there was a Warhammer Day around the same time in October.

Question is whether or not GW learnt from the latest debacle or not? Do we get something or substance or a big ol’ wet fart like last time?

As long as you're not expecting anything more than a possible Krieg tease, you'll be fine. I expect non-40k games to get the Lion share of the reveals. The chaos theming is definitely AoS related however...unless the Great Horned One was added to 40k behind my back.

Chapeau to Auspex Tactics but Cadian box was shown off at Warhammer Day 2022 so we might get to see a Krieg box

Not when it's a 2025 release. That's more a December/ Christmas day sizzle reel type thing.

The question there is how long after the show was the cadia box released? I'd wager it was inside a month or so.

That would actually be really cool. And absolutely 100% more content than the last ‘reveal’ a couple of weeks ago.
