The archive is gone :( really important past posts (eg obituaries - like Bligh's - https://www.warhammer-community.com/en-gb/articles/h0JKqxFv/alan-bligh/ *) are saved, but really good interviews from yesteryear and lots of other posts are gone. Some have been thankfully saved on the wayback machine (eg. https://web.archive.org/web/20190704123729/https://www.warhammer-community.com/2018/07/25/ask-the-author-john-french/), but there is a gamut of hobby articles and projects which are just gone (eg Vince Venturella's Cities of Sigmar Army - https://www.warhammer-community.com/2020/04/17/vince-venturellas-cities-of-sigmar-army/ - not from too long ago!).

* Surprisingly there was never an obit for Mr Ansell? I thought there was a small post? Can anyone share it if there was ?

My favourite time to use the website was the brief period in the run-up to Warhammer Quest: Cursed City where they had the excellent blood red and dark grey background with the white line art on it. Honestly, I'd kill to get themed backgrounds as an option.

Sounds like you need to spend more time on a hobby related forum that uses dark grey, red and black as its theme colours!

You say that, but I'm forever cursed to notice how B&Cs background is texture is low res.

I can feel the warp overtaking me.

Edit: Whoop, it's down for me, too. Blank screen where the articles should be.

They better not rob me of my Heresy Thursday or angry words shall be had! Like "aahw.." and "Fiddlesticks!"

My theory is there's a turf war in-progress at GWHQ, between the Heresy team who know people will snap if they don't show the Melee Weapons, and whatever department is demanding that they show Diaz, Nex and Astur first because they have rules now but no models. Multiple ambulances are on-scene, but the police have told them to hold back until they can force entry so current casualties are unknown.

I guess we'll know who won in fifteen minutes.

Nice little usability improvement I spotted:

The documents in the downloads page now actually include the title of the document and the date in the file name, not just a random string of characters.

For example, the core rules document file name used to be this: dLZIlatQJ3qOkGP7.pdf

Whereas now it's: warhammer40000_core&key_corerules_eng_24.09-5xfayxjekm.pdf

It's still not the friendliest file naming scheme in the world, but having the actual document name and the date is a step in the right direction and will hopefully help with people accidentally accessing old documents.

It's the Legions Imperialis crew with the RKO out of nowhere!

I feel bad for people who lost access to favorite old articles/interviews. I know the standby response is “well it’s hard to maintain so many old pages” or whatever but… I don’t know, there are plenty of websites (like this one) ran by much smaller organizations on much smaller budgets where you can access all or most of the old stuff just fine.

I haven’t been in the hobby long enough to have old favorite articles, but I have been a long time Magic the Gathering fan. Wizards of the Coast made several upgrades to the news/community site over the past ten years that made it worse and worse, culminating with one a couple years ago that nuked the vast majority of old articles. I had stopped reading daily and then even regularly after the first really terrible “mobile friendly update” about 10 years ago, but once I went to look up some old favorite columns and they were all gone, I’ve never even tried to visit since.

I do know I’ve already seen a bit of this out of GW, I’ve seen multiple comments online from the past 1-3 years where people say “check out these resources on the Forgeworld website” and link said pages, but upon clicking the link the pages are all purged. It sucks.

Sidenote: Glad I’m not the only person who heard their retinas cry out under the assault of a 40% white screen.

Apparently they didn't realise and they shared the new LI ad mech instead.

Honestly, I'm so cross this really is beyond the woman from Titanic.

Well the LI AdMech did get leaked, so that's probably why it's jumped the queue

I'm trying not to do the grumpy "bah, it's changed and I don't like that" knee-jerk reaction ... it'd be nice if the background were an off-white rather than pure white, and adding a little space below the individual cards would improve readability (it anchors the reading time, tag, etc, to the article above more obviously).

On the technical side, there's some mark-up failures which affect accessibility, and the "saved article" feature relies on cookies, so there's issues if you clear your browsing data, or use multiple PCs without syncing (e.g. personal & work).

The White Screen Demon known as the "Sightstealer" must have made a new infernal pact with one of the Chaos Gods. GW, please fill in some of the page with some color, I just got my prescription increased and I don't need a new one so soon. In all seriousness though, this seems like a sidegrade at best to me. The new menu redesignation of the "Black Library" section to the "Reading Section" doesn't add anything imo and instead just makes accessing the actual Black Library subdivision (the tab that fans of the fluff actually want to visit) harder to get to.  God bless for decent sorting functions, though. The new Downloads menu is pretty nifty as well. Tough that we lost so many great articles, but I suppose that's the price we as society pay for not carving kitbash ideas/author interviews into stone like any good Imperial citizen would.
