Brother Tyler
How would you like to see your work featured at the top of the site? We want to feature the contributions of our members in the site banner rotation. Our goal is to have a "banner of the month" with each selected banner sitting in the rotation for 2 months. Banner submissions must meet the following criteria: 1,098 pixels wide by 182 pixels high .gif, .jpeg, .jpg, or .png format (animated .gifs are allowed) "B&C" or "Bolter & Chainsword" or "Bolter and Chainsword" must be clearly visible in image, but doesn't need to dominate the image Banner content must meet site suitability requirements (e.g., relevant to the Warhammer 40,000 setting, no off-topic imagery/messaging, etc.) You must have the rights/licensing to use any fonts and imagery in the banner (non-commercial) Imagery of miniatures and terrain that you painted are acceptable All imagery must be created by you - no poaching imagery from the Internet or AI-generated imagery* Fonts used in banner do not have to match our normal fonts * AI-generated backgrounds may be acceptable. Please contact the staff to get a prospective AI-generated background cleared. The key is that we don't want the key features of the banner to be AI-generated. How do you submit a banner image? Upload the image to the Site Banner Submissions album in the gallery Post a reply here that includes the image and, if you have one, the URL to your blog Pray to the Emperor and the Primarchs and all the Saints of the Imperium (or the Dark Powers, if you prefer) Staff members will review each banner submission to ensure that each meets the criteria. Banners that meet all of the criteria will join the pool of eligible banners for selection. Banners that fail to meet any of the criteria will be rejected, but we will notify the member of the issues so that they can make adjustments and re-submit. How will banners be selected? Well, we're going to change things up each month. Sometimes banners will be selected by the members via a poll. Sometimes the staff will select the banner. Sometimes the Administratum members will select the banner. Sometimes we might allow the members of a Club to select the banner. Ideally selection will be limited to members of the staff less than half the time - we really want these banners to be selected by the members for the members (the staff are members, too, but I prefer a more democratic process). We may also focus on themes, especially when a certain game or faction will be the focus of a major new release during the month. For example, if the Imperial Fists are announced to have a major new release, we might choose banners featuring the Imperial Fists as those eligible for the month of or immediately after the release (as long as the winning banner for the previous month didn't feature the Imperial Fists). We also want to keep things varied, with banners in different styles, with different subjects and different color palettes. If a member's banner is selected one month, none of their other banner submissions will be eligible in the following two months (we have to give everyone a chance to win). Any banner submitted more than 7 days before end of the current month will be automatically included in the pool of eligible entries for the next month (as long as they meet any special criteria we might have for the month, and as long as the creator didn't have a badge featured in the previous 2 months). This will give us time to review banners for suitability and go through the selection process. Selected banners will run in the rotation for 2 months and will link to the submitting member's blog, if they have one. We may also allow links to other locations at the B&C, such as clubs or project discussions. In addition, members may earn badges: BANNER OF THE MONTH (1/3/6/10/15+) And, of course, there are the bragging rights and the pride in having your work featured prominently at the top of the site. This post will be updated with the most current guidance. If you have any questions or comments, or if you want to submit any banners, please reply in this discussion. ThePenitentOne
Regarding the permissions: if imagery in the banner is created by photographing our own fully-painted models or dioramas and filtering them in photoshop, would that be acceptable? Rusted Boltgun
What a great idea. I'd been toying with the idea of a banner / background image for my profile and maybe using it for a blog in the B&C. It is outside 'my wheelhouse' to use current parlance but I might be able to cobble something together with some time and access to my laptop. Brother Tyler
Just reminding everyone that November is fast approaching, just in case anyone wants to submit a banner. Cenobite Terminator 1 Back to top

I probably didn't have the talent, either. While I'm still working on the fancy idea, I figured I'd submit something simple this time around. https://bolterandchainsword.com/uploads/monthly_2024_10/large.Banner01Ioldanach.jpg.3fe25809fa7546cfc85f389177717055.jpg I was going for something gothic, but with a slightly different color palette than we're used to seeing at the top of the page. It's not my greatest work, but it might do if nobody submits anything else. apologist and Brother Carpenter 2 Back to top
Magos Takatus
I've got a clarification I'd like to make, mainly for myself but it might help other users. A while back I made a photoshoot of my Imperial Knights walking through some GW ruin terrain against a printed backdrop. The backdrop was A.I. generated but it doesn't appear egregiously so. Would that be acceptable or would the background need to be repainted in order to be considered for qualification? I'll post an example photo for your consideration. I suppose in future I could try airbrushing backdrops and finishing the details with my miniature brushes but my first backdrop was printed, sent to me as a poster and then I mounted it to a board. I'm just asking this really because it's not a blatantly obvious A.I. generated image but I would feel uncomfortable trying to "cheat" because my backdrop wasn't personally painted by me if that wasn't acceptable. Hopefully this might help a few other people as well but I expect I'm a bit of an outlier here. Magos Takatus
Thank you for the clarification. I don't think I will be able to start work on anything until most of the way through January but it's something I can think about if this is an ongoing project. Brother Tyler
The topic title has been changed to reflect the ongoing nature of the challenge. The first post has been updated with the answers to the questions posed so far. This topic has been moved to the + ABOUT THE COMMUNITY + category as it is an ongoing challenge that we hope to conduct in perpetuity.
Brother Tyler
We have three entries (so far). Since I failed to identify a deadline for submission (five minutes in the pain glove for me) and we need time to pick our winner, the deadline this time around is anything you can submit before I log in tomorrow morning (Thursday, 31 October). Once I log in, I'll identify that the deadline has passed here, and will create our poll. This time around, we'll go with a public poll that will remain open until I log in Friday morning (Friday, 1 November) and see who wins. So for those of you that like to wait until the last minute, there's still time to get a banner submitted for November. Keep in mind that anything submitted will remain eligible in perpetuity (depending upon any special criteria we might have from month to month). So any entries that don't win this month will be eligible for subsequent months.

Brother Tyler
There have been 3 additional submissions in the gallery. The deadline for this month will be Thursday, 21 November (whenever I first log in that day). I'll post the poll either that day or on Friday, 22 November. The poll will last through 1 or 2 December (whenever I get back from my trip), at which point the winning submission will join the rotation.
