So who exactly is that Combi-bolter half for?

Also I could've sworn there's more stuff in this image than we were shown previously.

It's half of a Storm Bolter for Terminators, I think. Dark Angels have the same in their new sprue.

Ven Dread is still kicking, Centurion's as well. Plus there's still an amount of Space Wolves, Dark Angels and Deathwatch too. (Plus Grey Knights, I don't think they can even be Primarisied, just upscaled) So there's still plenty of firstborn surviving models for now at least.

The real venerable dreadnought has been gone for a very long time. Don’t be confused by that imposter.

Anyone want to guess when the Combat Patrol will drop? Maybe December release?

Well they’ve said BA release is this upcoming week, so there’s no reason to believe the CP won’t be dropping next week as well.

Leaving aside how outrageous inaccessibility of decals outside of upgrade packs and army boxes is, the fact that the upgrade pack decal sheet doesn't include either 1st company, 10th company  or any squad markings, while successors are on the Death Company sheet is insane. I could somewhat excuse the 1st, because GW has been slapping Crux Terminatus on all vets for some time, so this part of BA heraldy is effectively dead, but come on.

its just a casing that fits the terminators, lets you make the gun on one of your terminators a bit more fancy.

Same amount of things, they just changed it so it doesnt have each thing with an x2 or whatever next to it and actually shows them individually

The thing that sucks about it is that if you don't like it you don't really have the option for anything else. (See thread title)

I get that has always been the case, but in the past a tactical squad was replaced by a tactical squad.

And yeah, armour variety is particularly bad on new kits. Dev process seems to be sculpt 1 set, repose 5 times. (or 3 if you're sang guard)

(Also I don't mean baubles when I say variety, don't make that argument)

kind of surprised the CP wasn't first then the individual kits.

Doesn't surprise me in the least. A Captain and 2 set of Sanguinary Guard probably add up to £100; if they put the Combat Patrol out at the same time nobody would buy the standalone kits when they could get those units plus 10 Assault Intercessors and 2 sets of upgrades for the same money.

This way they get to milk the people who absolutely can't/won't wait for the maximum amount of money, before offering the value set to everyone else.

On the flip side if you are a BA player for a long time you are less likely to need some of the things in the CP that you would have bought just to get the models faster, rather than just buy a box here or there. Guess I was looking at it like that and not someone who is new to BA

=][= A polite reminder that this thread is not the correct place to discuss the merits and demerits of Primaris vs Firstborn Space Marines, but the disappearance of some kits, and the new kits announced for pre-order next week =][=

I still can’t get the hang of this new announcement/ore-order-release cycle. Feels like these were all released weeks ago; can’t get my head round how they’re only just up for pre-order now…

I quite like the Captain, though if I was collecting BA I would probably go for a kitbash of one of the SG instead as his pose is a bit basic.

Also, do we know how much that upgrade set will cost? Considering how much the old ones were and the amount in this one, I can see it being as much as a full kit of guys.

Which is still strange that even in this new upgrade photo they only show two of the vehicle Chapter and Death Company icons when you get 3 each on the sprue. In the original upgrade picture they had them as X2. It's not a biggie obviously, but still strange.

It won't. It would have been shown on the Next week's pre-order article if it was. As has been said on here, it's probably not released at the same time to drive early sales of the individual Sanguinary Guard kits.

While i aplaud the sentiment, unless you only play with friends/relaxed environment, the guns dont match even a bit, and the rock will fix the height bulk wise there is still a BIG difference.

WYSIWYG is no a longer a rule so it does not really matter if the guns on the old DC Dread do not match the new Brutalis. In fact they are pretty close. The DC Dread comes with an underslung melta so there is your MM and the other fist can have a storm bolter so that covers the bolt rifles.

WYSIWYG no longer being an issue (Games Workshop's helpful comment about mixing Firstborn into Intercessor Squads is a great example) is one of the reasons why I've been tempted back to 40,000 in the last year or so. A mixed Firstborn x Salamander Infernus Squad? Yes please.

I've always meant to do a small BA force to complement my DA for a combined angels of death army. I bought some of the models but never got around to doing it. I will not be including the sanguinary guard models if i ever get around to it!

I still have Shield of Baal: Deathstrom in the pile of shame thankfully so have a BA dread in reserve plus a few other boxnaughts.

I dont dislike the redemptor dreads but the 'classics' are still my favorite.

I’m as tired of the old marines vs new marines “debate” as anyone, but once the topic “trueborn kits gone” was expanded with “replacement primaris kits on preorder” it was pretty much inevitable. I don’t even really know what else people are supposed to discuss with a thread title like that, honestly.

It was more in line with "that sucks, glad I already have/just bought the old ones" until this comment:

Most people are just talking about it like normal, which is how it usually goes.

Anyway, RIP to the old kits. We all know that every one of them is going the way of the dodo eventually. End of an era!

This is interesting, when and where was this please?

We're going to go through the same set of comments when the Space Wolves get updated.

That being said, I don't get the impression the community has the same level of fondness towards some of their unique kits...

Depends if models get removed or blandified rather than getting a glow-up.

New Terminators got almost universal praise (biggest criticism I saw was the reduced posing), and people were more hot than cold on new Deathwing Knights. I expect if Ravenwing Black Knights get a similar treatment rather than being deleted, people will be pretty happy with that as well.

If Space Wolves get their own awesome new Wolf Guard Terminators or a flavorful squad in line with how Sternguard were done, I bet people will be positive on that.

Aside from the rightful outrage over the removal of Sanguinary Nipples, the main concern seems to be where unique kits are being replaced with more generic kits or removed altogether.

This is interesting, when and where was this please?

I believe WYSIWYG was removed in 8th edition but it may have been earlier. In many ways it ties in with the reduction of options available to units. If a unit has a fixed loadout, paradoxically it grants a degree of modelling freedom as you can mix and match models a bit without it affecting the rules. As long as the unit is clearly recognisable for what it is and distinguishable from the other units on the board, the exact models become less important.

I still maintain they're absurdly large, especially as they dwarf the Chaos Terminators, but I won't deny they're a nice looking kit and proportionally a massive upgrade over the old ones.
