Just a heads up, strong possibility of east coast ports shutting down due to longshoremen Union strike. Both sides sound very far apart so far.

this will affect ports from Maine to Florida, so it might get more expensive to buy models in store and might take longer to get online ordersĀ

Think about impact on Xmas too, as containers coming now start including stuff for end of year.Ā

Our exports to us and canada are currently impacted with delays that are expected under the current projections to be resorbed only at end of january. I talk of iso containers of chemicals and specialties. I imagine all stuff will be affected in the same way.

I was already planning to pick up my niece and nephewā€™s gifts yesterday, but that news made sure I didnā€™t procrastinate on it.

I never thought Iā€™d live to see the day the Mob is impacting my Warhammer hobby.Ā

edit: import yeti indicates a not insignificant amount of Warhammer arrives through LA

Good luck to the union, I hope workers rights do not degrade any further.

Ā

They are going to be fine. The negotiations included an 80% (!!) pay raise for the union, which both sides agreed to already. There is just another sticking term regarding automation that the union didn't like, so they walked.

Longshoreman are the only ā€œworkersā€ that can afford modern GW prices. Itā€™s very rude of them to keep the rest of us rich middle class people not making their tiny 150K a year from being able to buy what we can!Ā

Last I heard the companies were offering a 50% raise while the union was asking for a 77% raise.

Do you live on the east coast? 150k isnā€™t bad, but for the areas the ports are in, itā€™s not particularly great either, especially if you have any kids, or a spouse with college loans to pay off.

I'm in Cincinnati. $150k per year is pretty darned freaking good!! I will never see that. lol.

Ā

Ā

Ā

Well I mean thatā€™s because itā€™s Ohio lol.

Ā

accodring to google you need about $1300/month extra if you live in Philly compared to ohio for the same quality of life.

I am literally from Georgia. 150 is good money even in the expensive cities. And longshoremen donā€™t need to pay off school loans because they are hired off the street for knowing the right ā€œwise guysā€. No college required!

What I saw was they ended up agreeing on the pay, but automation was the real issue. Guess they don't want ports to start using bots to move goods around?

Ā

Seems like they will be fine in the end. People around the country will be paying a lot more for things in the near term though.

=][= We've wandered fairly far afield here. The topic is about the possible impact that the portworker strike has on the hobby (ie- delayed shipments, pushed back timelines for future releases, etc...), not about whether the strike is a good thing, or motives behind the strike. Please keep it on topic. =][=

Iā€™m going to say this and I donā€™t mean this to come off as political or anything but a little bit of advice: if this strike is going to be as impactful as it seems, I would recommend being more concerned about necessities, not plastic models. ThisĀ willĀ affect the economy and it may affect your ability to purchase goods, particularly canned goods. I would suggest stocking up a bit, just to be on the safe side.Ā

My wife must be a union mole, because she has been stocking toilet paper for forever now. All the free shelves in our main closet are stacked with rolls. If anyone needs some, PM me. I promise it won't be any more expensive than a GW boxed set.Ā

Wait, not everyone has 10 yrs supplies of food, medical supplies, metal, fuel / generators, garden, wood stove, water storage, defense and solar power with other addition that make their house off grid?Ā  I will be good, as well as my family.Ā  Always be prepare for an emergency.Ā  The comment I quote is correct.Ā  Plastic toys are the least of your worry with this.Ā  Always be prepare even in good time.Ā  This is a lesson.Ā

But I will die if I canā€™t get my plastic crack!

Ā

shoot the way some people in the FB groups talk and how entitled and spoiled they are they really might hyperventilate to death if they canā€™t get their toys.

Probably don't need to discuss that on a 40k forum though.
