Hey guys, I'm just wondering if any of you on issues ahead of me, if you have gotten more brushes or tools?  My last issue was 50 and the last tool I got was the texture spreader in issue 44.

As a person with a casual interest in Warhammer I find the magazine great.  I really just want to learn to paint the model, but all the lore bits in the magazine are great.  I've seen people online valuing each issue solely based on the models.  Overall I think it's great vaule, considering the models seem to be overpriced to me.  Any paint issues that are cheaper to buy the paints outright, the cost is offset by everything else; value of the entire series, rules for those who play the game, a good paint guide for beginners like me, all the lore, extras like rulers, play mats, tokens, terrain markers etc.

I know someone joked up above about a Horus Heresy series.  Would that ever be likely?  It seems like the Horus Heresy miniatures have much more resin kits which I thought were more expensive, but on looking at the website I'm not so sure.  I'm not sure I understand the pricing at all by GW :laugh:

The command squad in plastic for HH is 42 euro for 5 miniatures

This really cool squad of 5 miniatures from HH is 39.50 euro in resin.  Although they are missing weapons.

3 plastic miniatures of 40k space marines, 50 euro

5 plastic miniatures ok 40k SM's, 55 euro

10 plastic miniatures of 40k SM's, 135 euro

Oof that €135 box is absurd…

Back to the magazine:

Hearthguard issue is this week in UK by the way. Snagged a copy today from Morrison’s for my son for a stocking filler. 75% discount on RRP for that issue.

The only reason it is sold that way is because they were all on the same sprue in Indomitus. It is a box with three characters, so the characters alone would be over 100 Euros. You are effectively getting a free squad for that price. We save money per model, they save money on making a new mould. As stupid as it sounds, I consider that a win.

For those who may be interested, I just had an email from Forbidden Planet saying that issues #19 & #20 are available for pre-order.

That’s the Parasite of Mortrex and the Chaplain on Bike issues, £27 & £35.50 at GW respectively.

Coincidentally I also received the email about the PoM.

Jr has asked for a Chaplain on bike for Christmas so I've just pre-ordered one and am getting another set of Cthonian Beserks because obviously I need more unpainted Votann.

With the reveal of the Assault Terminator profiles the standard Terminators fair much better rules-wise, so I wish I could pick some of those up! The Terminators issues should be in stores here in a couple of weeks I think - we just had issue 10 with the Librarian!

Forbidden Planet looks to have a handful of older, previously sold-out issues back in stock, specifically #12 and #13 (Terminator Squad) and #19 (Parasite of Mortrex)

thanks for the heads up, seems you can buy constructed models on ebay for £30 (and have done so for slightly less) but would be nice to have a go myself. And then will pick up some assault terminators (new or old versions) in due course

what changed with the profiles? I must have missed that

After running the numbers, the regular Terminators are just as if not more lethal in nearly every instance than the Assault variant (claws or hammers). It is a bit Mathhammer heavy but the numbers check out. Check out the following video for more info:

Isn’t Hearthguard split over two issues?

Nope! It's one of the extremely good value ones where the kit is surprisingly on one issue like Wraithguard and Chaos Terminators.

No, just like Halandaar said. There are a few super value issues:

Chaplain on bike

Parasite of Mortrex

Wraithlord

Wraithguard

Chaos Terminators

10 Ork boyz (twice)

Ork war buggy

Hearthguard

There are more to come later on as well - I think the 20 Khorne Berserkers come as 10 per issue and so do the Cadians, plus the heavy weapon teams in one as well. Khorne Lord on juggernaut I think? And something big for GSC.

D'oh! How did I miss the Hearthguard?!

I should really stop. I think I'm up to 2k in points of unpainted Votann.

This is me with the Aeldari. Went nuts earlier in the year and ended up with 14 jetbikes, 3 units of wrathguard, a farseer on jetbike, a spiritseer, a vyper and a fire prism.

I’ve so far painted 2 test jetbikes, only one of which is in the right colour scheme…

Same - missed out on the wraithguard, but got 3 wraithlords, two farseers, and I think 12 jetbikes altogether from it. and then picked up some cheap Howling Banshees from someone selling from the premium kit.

Did manage to get two of the Hearthguard ones too - brought the champion when the LoV first came out and people were box splitting the release box so he's got some buddies now at least. Want to make a little ~750pt army I think.

wouldn't mind getting a couple of the infantry ones just to use for conversions or to make some guys for necromunda scenarios

oh great now im thinking maybe i do need more of it to make a little planetary defence force

“Little” planetary defence force… that is a slippery slope, my friend

Tried for 63 yesterday in FP but they didnt have any.

They did have maybe 10 of issue 60. the hobby magpie in me nearly picked some up but I dont play/collect LoV so they would have just been either a random painting project (I have enough of those), a trigger for then collecting LoV later or more likely just end up in the loft in a box for an age. Temptation resisted for now!

Why is it four issues for the khorne berserkers? I thought it would be two. Four issues wouldn't be much of a discount would it?

Edit: Never mind. Just looked at the picture again and realized it's 20 berserkers.
