Why did they pick 2 Chaos kill teams, they could have picked a faction not used, like tau.  Or Drukari.  Or even something interesting like Imperial Agents

Of the 9 factions they've chosen, 5 - over half - are Xenos. There are two Imperial and two Chaos.

I guess they didn't do Ad Mech or Sororitas because they were in the last part works, Imperium. Similarly, no Necrons, as that last Magazine built a whole army of those.

With 9 factions out of the many they had to choose from, I think they've picked a decent variety without leaning too much on either Imperials, Chaos or Xenos

I do wonder if they'll do another volume of this magazine for 11th edition, they could well include Tau and/or Drukhari in that.

thanks for the replies guys.  I guess it makes sense to balance out the chaos/imperials/xenos.  Still though maybe there are other options for Chaos, such as cultist/demons etc.

I was thinking today, another nice idea would be for Hatchette or someone else to re-release out of print things, like board games.  Blackstone Fortress, Space Hulk etc.

Seems to have become a license to print money for Hachette so almost certainly there will be another magazine about 12-18 months after 11th Edition launches. I guess the question will be whether they continue with the Combat Patrol format or move back to bigger, more focused collections.

With the upcoming AoS Spearhead collection they've ditched the extra models for each faction and just added more factions, for 12 Spearheads total. Assuming they did the same for 40K they could use the below factions and the only repeats with the current collection would be the ones we're expecting to be the 11E starter factions (Marines & Orks)

IMPERIUM

>Marines<

Adepta Sororitas

Adeptus Mechanicus

Adeptus Custodes

Imperial Agents

CHAOS

Emperor's Children

Death Guard

Thousand Sons

XENOS

>Orks<

Drukhari

Necrons

T'au Empire

Not to say they definitely wouldn't repeat any (Spearhead is repeating Sylvaneth and Gloomspite Gitz from the previous AoS collection), the point is more that there are so many factions that they *could* still expand to 12 and have no repeats apart from the starter set armies.

Im surprised they’re single runs of each magazine, or rather that they don’t have a 40k/AoS simultaneously as it’s close to a 2 year cycle and that could knock out half of your market. When the 40k one ends I won’t buy a fantasy one most likely and I imagine a lot of fantasy players would be in a similar boat.

I think they’re really good value for money for allowing you a structured way to add variety to your collection for factions you may know about lore wise but not much about playing them so it’s a big W in my books. I’ve picked up Ork and Votann and will keep it going until the end of the cycle most likely - skipping the paint issues though

Heads up to UK Fraters - Hachette have got a Black Friday offer on, you can pick up the terrain set for 15%off their £80 selling price, which is £68.

An absolute steal considering that terrain would cost over £200 direct from GW..!

Also, all Combat Patrol issues are sold out, so no discount on those unfortunately
