Just had a quick download and it's simply an oddly formatted PDF browser.  It's free and the rules are free so not expecting the full functionality of the 40k app but this seems a bit too basic to be overly useful.  It'd be nice if it used a modified version of the 40K dataslate formats which is nice and clear on a phone screen.  I find the PDF cards on a phone format they have gone for quite hard to visually parse, especially as the fronts and backs are stacked horizontally not vertically.  Still it's exciting to see all the team rules.

I misunderstood when they said "free rules" as I thought the core rules would also be free, which is not the case. This seems like a bit of unnecessary gatekeeping?

"At launch, you’ll be able to download the Kill Team Lite Rules, and all of the kill teams above."

I assume the app will be updated then with the "lite" rules, whatever they are.

On first glance I think I'd sooner download the pdfs and stick them in a folder on my phone rather than use the app. I'd rather have the whole thing in one document than have to click around to find ploys and stuff, especially when the actual datasheets don't seem super-readable. They're in no obvious order so finding something like an inquisition datasheet is a bit of a pain.

I appreciate GW's apps because every time I open one, I am reminded how grateful I am to the other apps I use for their investments in UX design. I appreciate the effort, but their apps diminish the brand's perceived value through their shoddiness.

There are “Lite rules” in the app, but at a first glance I am not sure if they’ll be enough to actually try out the game.

They look more like a cheatsheet

I think we will have to wait until Friday or next week for the rules with more details. I wonder if it was rushed out before the rules would be released? I have no objection to having lite rules if it lets me try out a couple of games.

Main criticism of the app from me is it seems to just be a PDF viewer. If I'm checking on my phone, I'll probably go to the website and download that way over the app. Also it would be good to see which Kill Teams are active in what season but I'm guessing this will either be in the rules or a separate pdf.

It's a little more usable than just reading the pdf because it's split in different sections.
I would probably print my own datacards but it could be useful to see what my opponent can do with its own kill team.

What I really like compared to the 40k app is that it's translated in my language (french) because it's pdfs the translation is already done. On the opposite I don't think the 40k one will be translated in the future because they have to transpose every translation from the book in the app (it's doable but far more work and GW doesn't seem to care).

I think it'll be stuck at the lite rules, for anything more that that you'll need the book.

Yeah, I'd agree - does make it a bit easier to read

While it's useful to have everything in one place rules wise, I wish this App had some form of list/roster builder, including allocating equipment. That aside, no complaints about the availability and accessibility of rules from this - good job on GW for making these free, as well
