OrkPlayer137
Although the new plastic Space Marine Scouts look a lot better than the old ones, I have a lot of painted old ones and don't want to replace them, so I want to add a few more models of the old style. However, it would be nice to improve them a bit while keeping consistency. I have some spare old kits, but I am wondering if some of the parts from the new kit would work with them - has anyone tried this? I know the new models are a lot bigger, but I am wondering if some of the arms or heads might work and look ok, and if the scale of the weapons is very different. Might be useful particularly to add the new auspex arm, grapnel launcher, etc for use in Kill Team, or for extra heavy weapons and a better pose on the sergeant arms. Thanks! Firedrake Cordova
I have no idea what the answer is (I only have the old ones, and the really old metal ones), but it's an interesting idea. I suspect that whilst the models are physically larger, some parts may be inter-changeable due to proportions being "corrected" (in the same way the old shoulder-pads and heads were compatible with the Primaris Interecessors, I believe) OrkPlayer137 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/384139-mixing-old-and-new-plastic-scout-parts/#findComment-6068709 Share on other sites
OrkPlayer137
Thanks for the thought - I'm hoping that is the way it works. Evil Eye
I imagine it should actually work quite well. Can't comment on the scouts but Primaris and Firstborn parts work better together than you might think; here's a freebie Infernus Marine I converted into a truescaled Firstborn using Tactical head, arms and backpack (with lightly converted metal Captain for scale). Whilst the Primaris details have been shaved away and resculpted with Milliput, the base structure of the body is the same. Primaris and Firstborn have very similar proportions from the ribcage up, so there's theoretically quite a lot of cross-compatibility between the two scales if you're creative. OrkPlayer137
Thanks - that looks good. I doubt I would have guessed it was originally a Primaris model if the Milliput was painted over. I'll have to give it a try with the scouts and see how I get on - maybe I'll just order one pair of arms from a bits company or something like that first to see how they fit before ordering more. Terminatorinhell
Yeah I think it's worth trying a small set first. I have old plastic scouts and the new ones but the old ones are like 600 MI away. I think the only thing is the arms could look a bit long. But heads should be better. I tried the new scout arms on a firstborn body and idk.. Here's a Pic for reference. OrkPlayer137
Thanks, that's a useful scale comparison - I'll try holding a firstborn model next to the old scouts and comparing it to your photo. Brother Carpenter
Just the other day I held a metal one next to a new one and the height difference is roughly a head, but the heads were about the same size. I think most of the height difference is in the larger leg length, correcting the squat look.
