"Rise of the Dark Mechanicum is the next book for Legions Imperialis, and it contains army lists for both the Mechanicum Taghmata and the Dark Mechanicum, as well as Formations for dedicated armies of Collegia Titanica and Questoris Familia."

"The Serperos is just one of the many accursed engines of war that the Dark Mechanicum concocted during the Horus Heresy, and we’ll lift the rusted metallic veil from the rest in due course. Rise of the Dark Mechanicum also covers the Doom of Magma City, alongside a new Escalation Campaign that allows you to link battles over a series of conflicts which end with a final, epic Grand Clash."

Now, they've said that everything in the Mechanicum box set for LI is going to show up at 30K scale too, do we think the same will be true for these lads, or other Dark Mechanicum bots?

I think so. The Stalker on the photographs looks suspiciously well detailed. As with the redesigned Marine Rapiers and SAified Baneblades though, it doesn't necessarily mean 28mm will be seeing them soon (though on the other hand there's the Aethon which appeared at 28mm pretty quick). I think Martian Civil War not having any rules for this stuff makes it more likely we're in for a bit of a wait.

If they do a new edition next year, it could be why there were stopgap rules for the Martian Civil War book/no new bespoke kits. Only time will tell if that's true though.

This has me so excited, I cannot properly express how much. I have to wonder how the Titan and Knight formations will function and if there will be a point change in those circumstances to account for their change in battlefield role from strictly support to being the primary force.

It does excite me to learn that the Stalk Tank is only one of a number of what they seem to be hinting at Dark Mechanicum-specific units. I do hope they’re more in similar vain of this new unit and not just 8mm versions of Defilers or whatever they lazily ported into the 28mm version a year or so back.

It does also make me wonder: Adeptus Mechanicum and Dark Mechanicum will be sharing core units and Dark Mech are getting their own specific units… what is Ad Mech getting to differentiate themselves from the Hereteks other than having less unit selection? I would assume there has to something, though in the actual lore they were a bit lacking in comparison.

I guess they could go down the route of making the same units cheaper for loyalist AdMech (something about the price of treachery making forges less efficient for those units) but seems more likely they’ll add something.

Glad I pledged allegiance to the Warmaster though so I get to play with these

I'd imagine dark mech having a more restricted base unit list, different formations. Or just not having access to ordinatus etc. Would be weird to have dark mech just be mech but with more options.

The Ordinatus wouldn’t make too much sense considering it was Xana that had pledged to supply Horus with them and was the subject of an entire Shattered Legions campaign during the Heresy to disrupt that supply chain.

That is very true! Then I remain curious to see what they've come up with.

Yeah I’m a bit perplexed myself. At the end of the day it doesn’t matter since I’m a filthy traitor and will be representing Forge World Makabius.

I love this.  The Questoris family and the college titanicus sound really interesting. This book could add 4 factions to the games if knight and titans both get full army options.  Really can’t wait to see what else is coming now.

Going from 2 factions + allies to 6 factions would be a pretty great improvement. Now give me Custodes and Daemons next GW

Great news! When did they say that?

Very curious to see what other models they will reveal. As you sat there seems to be one in the background of cover as well.

Worth noting these seem to be the same size as an Acastus Knight Porphyrion, so if they do release in 28mm they'd likely be resin. Which would make them the first new resin non-character of HH2E.

Plastic isn't entirely out of reach, admittedly.

Most of the height comes from the spindly legs though. As they're doing the cerastus in plastic, I'd give it a fair chance for a plastic kit

According to Ingtaer on DakkaDakka, the release date for these nice little additions to the range could be November 2.

If true, we should see it announced on Sunday October 20.

As usual with whispered release dates, apply salt to your liking.

Curious to see today's Heresy article.
