Rusted Boltgun
Mods, please delete if this covered elsewhere. If it is, I have totally missed so apologies. The WarCom article on the new Brutal and Cunning WarCom outlines the Ratling Kill Team but also appears to mention some reinforcements that aren't in the box The starred mention has no footnote that I could see. So could a build option be a Ratling Fire Team with added Ogryns / Bullgryn power? Was there mention of this in the reveal stream? I haven't watched it. The build notes for the Ratling minis indicates that you can build them as a Kill Team with the fluffy operatives and as a more 40k-style sniper team. Wondering whether the build options expand into the KT roster building. Whatever way it shakes out, looks like a fun box set. Excited for it and I haven't even got my hands on my Hivestorm box yet! Frogian
i've played a few games of KT, but just using the intercession kill team - have never bought anything that was a specific KT box. This one definitely has me tempted though - first one in a long time, maybe ever, where I want both teams - if Ratlings can run ogryns even more so. Lord Marshal
The original rumour (from Valrak iirc) was it would be a Ratling + Ogryn team. This is probably like Blades of Khaine where the boxset only includes Striking Scorpions, but the rules let you run Howling Banshees and Dire Avengers as well - they're just not new models so they didn't get shoved in the box. TheMawr
Since you said all new sculpts and the ogryn technically isn't you should edit this response to miss a pinky and have "there" In a smaller font :p How on point, but sometimes through a sidetrack, your kt source is im now wondering ( I know you don't know either ) if the conflicting rumor works like this : "swooping hawks will get their plastic kit through kill team" and "there is no swooping hawks kill team" are not necessarily conflicting if the kill team itself isn't swooping hawks ( but another of your rumored releases ) but the kit can still make them. Not going to deep into this now as it would get too off-topic ;) I can also do a there it is gif btw ! while ratlings the obviously more celebrationary rumor engines are indeed not the kill team/40k snipers but a seasonal diorama mini as i kept convinced of.. though might as well have been as the kit has plenty lunchy options, fun details among those. I have very little feedback on the two teams, i like crazier/"cartoonier" orks ( kt kommandos and beast snaggas) and prefer the blackstone fortress ratlings vibe but they both look great still! Most interesting is that we are moving to both sides being completely new teams, and we are running out of 40k kit updates conveniently put in kill team. Wich means we will probably see a lot of fresh versatile unit kits soon. It's also cool to see the Ogryn's and such added in. This could mean or see that this is a rather small team in height and number of models. Which is always appealing to me. Though taking very few models probably won't be very good. apologist
I'm really pleased to see the Ratlings – fittingly for the descendants on Stumper Muckstart, it hits three targets in one: Expands an existing 40k range Great modelling and painting project, full of character and individuality Updates and improves on an old set of models. This sort of kit really is what Kill Team does best. There are loads of lovely touches, from the variety and character of the archetypes to fitting new introductions like the Fixer and Vox-thief, which explore the setting in ways that would be too granular at modern 40k scale. I like the fact that Ogryns look like they can be used within the Kill Team, too. While hope springs eternal, I think @Lord Marshal is on the money that they don't appear because they'll be a reuse of the old sculpts – bit of a shame if this is the case, as Ogryns are amongst the most appealing parts of the Guard, and an update along these lines offers great opportunities to improve on the rather pedestrian current kit. +++ Although I do like the orks as well, they strike me more as leaning towards a 'stealth update' for a 40k unit than something that really feels well-suited to the individualistic nature of Kill Team special forces. The Tankbusta Rokkiteer (an ork with a rocket launcher) really very different from the Tankbusta Gunner (an ork with a slightly bigger rocket launcher); or the Breaka Boy Fighter (an ork with a hammer) markedly different in role than a Breaka Boy Demolisha (an ork with a hammer with a rocket attached to it)? Such duplication of roles seems a bit forced. Having said that, this is still a good way to keep updates trickling through for armies that don't have a big release any time soon, or that have had one recently; and beyond this box I very much like the fact that GW seem to be developing the old Tankbusta unit and splitting it into ranged and close-up archetypes. I'd expect to see Tankbusta and Breaka mobs being entirely separate things in 40k, come the new Ork Codex. Debuting these dual-build units as Kill Teams is a clever way both to introduce them to the universe, and allow players some flexibility and interest within Kill Team – so I won't grouse too much; it's a slick sales model, and has resulted in some lovely miniatures, too! Deus_Ex_Machina
Sausages are the best part of those minis. I still can´t fathom why a turn needs to be named turning point. At least they got rid of geometry class when they reintroduced the common range ruler. ThePenitentOne
It would be kinda nice to drop the KT expansion with Rattlings at the same time as the guard; having rattlings arrive at that time would give the guard a "bonus" unit for their launch. I hope you're right and we hear more next week. I'm a big fan of Abhumans- they have a lot of quirky Narrative potential. Rein and Raus still have Legend rules, and I could see myself having two units of rattlings to go with them. I could see a scenario where the guard sends a team to recruit rattlings- like a Commissar and some bodyguards- small forces. The guard would show up with an empty transport, help the rattlings fight off a common enemy and spirit them away in the transport to join the Imperium on turn 5.
