LemartestheLost
Was joking about this in a different thread but I do think it would be beneficial to add a sad/depressed reaction for those who wish to show genuine, heartfelt sorrow or grief at any given facet of the hobby (Lamenting old, disappeared kits/codexes to sad community news such as passings or retirements). It would have to be implemented in such a way that it would not be used as a passive aggressive harassment tool or just another disagree/downvote button, Ex: giving someone a crying face because they're acting like a baby. Don't know if that's just another thing for the Moderati to police but it's something to consider I think. apologist
I like this idea. Could be a 'respectful' reaction, to avoid people using it negatively, perhaps? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/384183-sadnesssorrow-reaction/#findComment-6069206 Share on other sites
N1SB
What an intriguing thought. Like a golden mask with a single red tear drop below an eye. Or 2 crossed hands forming the sign of the aquilla. Brother Tyler
Note that this isn't being ignored. We [the staff] are discussing options. N1SB 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/384183-sadnesssorrow-reaction/#findComment-6072456 Share on other sites
Brother Tyler
We're not quite done with this one yet, but we took the initial idea and morphed it into a related concept - that of showing support for someone else. That support might be a show of solidarity when someone is going through hard times, a pledge of support in some effort, or whatever. The imagery we drew upon harkens back to our Space Marine roots and obscure lore about the Crimson Fists Chapter from a Games Day Program(me). That lore ascribed the original inspiration for the Chapter badge of the Crimson Fists deriving from Rogal Dorn clasping left hands with other Space Marines (or perhaps it was just Captains) after slicing hands, hence the clenched left fist. My memory of the lore is kind of fuzzy and I need to find the program in order to more accurately quote it; and the lore has since been changed with the fleshing out of Alexis Pollux and his background. However, we took the notion of clasped left hands (Space Marine gauntlets) as an image evoking the concept of sharing a bond with someone and/or helping them up. We used two different colors to make it clear that the gauntlets belonged to two different people. (click the image to see the larger version) As far as a reaction to show sadness goes, we're still working on that. Any imagery involving tears will invite abuse, though the concept of the hands in the aquila sign is interesting (and dovetails in nicely with the Support reaction). Another concept I've been thinking about is based on more old lore, this time dating back to the 1st edition of the game and the Index Astartes article about the Legion of the Damned. In that version of the Legion of the Damned's history, the Chapter was once the Fire Hawks and "[the] great Bell of Lost Souls tolled a thousand times, and it [is] said that the Emperor himself ordered a Black Candle to be lit in the Adeptus Chapel of Fallen Heroes." So I'm considering both a bell icon and a black candle icon. The bell might be confusing, especially for members of the community that use other social media platforms for which bell iconography has a completely different meaning. So we're still working on this one. On the other hand, if the community is satisfied that the Support reaction is suitable for sadness/sorrow, we don't need to create another reaction.
