Someone on reddit got this allegedly gifted.

Considering some of the irritation at the servo skull pallette this would be mildly humorous timing. Or it is fake.

I'm unfamiliar with wet pallets - is this a common design or are GW going for something different?

Sometimes GW genuinely innovates/improves on hobby gear - I think the old mold line scraper was the best available and I do like the water pot with the cleaning elements.

Unironically, it does look like like it's a regular old sponge wipe with a bit of baking paper. Like one would be able to make a DIY wet palette. Though it does include a biocide, like most commercial wet palettes to prevent mould.

In general the whole assembly looks to be more single-use, like they intend you to get one per project. It'll be interesting to see if they sell bundles of palette paper along with it.

Looks like a $2 shop wet pallete …

i bet it won’t be $2.00

M

LOL totally agree!

I'm all for GW making stuff like this as it's a great way of people getting exposed to these sorts of tools. But it does look like something you could have made yourself. It should have at least be a coloured tub with an imperial eagle on it or hammer of sigmar!

Got a bit feeling that this is fake as doing a search with google lens id's the barcode as being for  (judging by the sites listed) as the EU code for Screaming Bell base paint.

doubt they we reuse a code that is for an item that's still available.

The multiple languages make me think it is real. That seems like the kind of thing a faker would forget.

Could this then be a mock up for an item that they decided not to release or is set to be released later on? The fact that the copyright is set to 2023 says that they should have been out already.

The 2023 date and odd barcode result makes me think this is either a fake or a prototype

I seem to remember reading that someone who previously worked at GW (possibly Peachy?) saying that GW had dismissed a Wet Palette for now as if hobbyists were keeping paint useable for longer, it means they buy paint less frequently, or something like that

Yep, that was during Tom Hibberd's interview on Painting Phase; he gave wider context r.e. part of the reason is none of the painting team at GW used paint palettes at work / at home, that a lot of people actually break the seal completely on GW paints leading to them drying out quicker, etc. It's an excellent interview (all the Peachy-era interviews are), and he breaks down why the company doesn't sell a branded airbrush as well.

what does this mean / which part? I'm wondering if i'm opening my paints wrong!

It was a bit difficult to track a picture down, but you can see the little nubbin on the back that usually interferes with the lid opening wide? Don't push the lid past it to the point it can rest open widely; that's part of the seal, and pushing too far breaks it, leading to your pots drying out faster.

Ah nice to know I've been opening my pots too far....:facepalm::whistling:

That beside, as an HSE officer I'm actually concerned that there seems to be a biocide included in most available wet palets.

Knowing this, I'm definitely keeping my paper towel under baking paper diy wet palette.

Actually, that may be a reason for me to avoid a 'proper' one - I dont lick my brushes (....these days - used to be a bad habit when I was young when my hands were full to get a point back) but I have cats who can be a bit... 'stupid'. They clearly dont know any better and to be fair dont generally show an interest in my hobby stuff at least but they do gravitate to any unattended water sources so it is not worth the risk.
