This Friday will be something fairly innocuous. They've even said a 'little' surprise.

While I indeed don't think the suprise will be a big miniature reveal considering the timing. There have been almost as many instances where " a little reveal " was an equal to or bigger one than another called " a mega huge super reveal", just a technicality, because the context here makes it sound as if this is not even a miniature/reveal type of surprise.

Maybe it will be like what the necrons got with the silent king, with that ominous trailer not showing models but just going he’s on the rise, get people closer to that Christmas Day finish line

I don't think having a theme is inherently flanderisation. You can fail to interestingly explore a theme (see: World Eaters) or successfully do so (see: Death Guard).

I don't think EC being "the Noise Marine army" is super limiting (...)

I'm fine with things that echo their pre-Heresy stylings. But they should be warped and changed; corrupted into a grotesque mockery of what the Legion once was.

I agree completely on your first and last point. The middle one I think we'll just have to agree to disagree on. I definitely think EC/Slaanesh themed marines ought to be more than "the noise marine army", which is exactly what I would consider flanderisation, as it focuses narrowly on one specific aspect of a much broader theme. I realise that you elaborated much more on this point, so I hope you don't feel I've misrepresented you by snipping the elaboration, because that isn't my intention at all.

I really enjoyed the unofficial concept art. I also think that it had an interesting example of something I sometimes feel get lost in the model design; mutations that aren't "exclusive" to one god - specifically the "mouth in stomach" marine, which is a mutation that has had a strong/exclusive Nurgle connotation for a while - but it absolutely doesn't have to be a Nurgle-exclusive thing and I think the art demonstrates that beautifully. That's exactly the sort of thing I'd love to see in the EC models.

Agree on not limiting certain mutations - the "mouth in stomach" also appears on a couple AoS Khorne models, and classically there's some Slaanesh stuff with insect features. (Eyes and probiscis, mainly, but some arms and such too.) Mouths and tongues especially seem well suited to Slaanesh.

I'll... umm... reverse Uno card?.. on the Noise Marine/EC "flanderisation" thing.

Which is to say that I feel like some might be pigeon-holing Noise Marines a tad. For example, I've talked before about how the concept of a "Noise Marine duellist" is much more interesting to me than "a duellist". (Then again, I like Lucius the Eternal, so...)

But if one's concept of a Noise Marine is very narrow then I can understand not wanting the EC to be nothing but Sonic Blasters. I just don't consider Noise Marines to be nothing but Sonic Blasters - they're thrill-seeking madmen who excessively pursue experience, to the point where they've lost the general concept of what most would consider to be pleasurable. Part of that (from which they derive their name) is that their environs are just constantly at max volume in all respects, because they're so desensitised to life.

Is there really any concept that couldn't be improved by a beat?

(I'm not huge on the Fabius Bile series' portrayal of Noise Marines for that reason. Really cool for a sub-cult, but not the Cult.)

General question: Lucius the Eternal and Vaust the Bull - Noise Marines?

To me: yes. Firstly, they're originally from the 2002 Codex era, where the Mark of Slaanesh inherently gave Warp Scream. But beyond that, Lucius has the Armour of Shrieking Souls and Vaust the Bull has his Deafening Bellow (ie Doom Sirens). Both are loud boys, but I'd venture that a fair few people would instinctively say no.

Eidolon? Toots around smacking things with his hammer and screaming them in twain.

I think the ‘little surprise on Friday’ unfortunately might just have meant to be the AoS commemorative Boxing Day model thing that we saw last week, and they just haven’t updated the article. They only showed them last week because they leaked, and the photo had the 20th in as a date which would be Friday.

Oh yeah, forgot about that.

You'd hope GW wouldn't have left that in the article considering it's been over a week since that was posted, but it's always possible that they did just mess it up again.

Didn't GW sort of revealed Magnus in December by taking it out of the trash in a cheeky joke video? I remember that happening before the actual official reveal, I can see something like that happening for EC and then the full reveal in January. I doubt all these christmas hints aren't leading to a climax.

I don’t think ec are gonna get any leaks , they seem to have locked this up tight , idk though I’d love to be proved wrong

VALRAKKKKK

whenever I think of ec rumours you’re always there to mock me lol

I beg for another tease, tell us something about the fulgrim or Lucius model , something to get me over the finish line for Christmas Day I beg , my copium is at a high

New Grotmas detachment for Slaanesh Daemons.

Notable is that the art is marine focussed/power armour-y. And purple.

On the other hand, one of the Strats fires off of the 'Shadow of Chaos' Army Rule from Chaos Daemons, so this isn't actually future-proofed to be used with a Codex: EC that includes daemons.

//

The Khorne one has art (second page) of a skull-faced guy with a Slaanesh-rune-monocle. (Literally a 2nd edition Noise Marine head.)

To follow up from that, the Tzeentch one has a Rubric and the Nurgle one has a Plague Marine.

As for the "Shadow of Chaos" thing, it may be something that's repurposed for the Daemons in the monogod codexes, thus making the Detachments work with the Cult Marines.

As for the Khorne one having a Slannesh guy in it, good catch.

I've only seen people identify that as a Jhackal.

HQ with the "pipe organ backpack", melee weapon and pistol sounds like a straight update of the old EC Lord with the Doom Siren.

Maybe the ec lord in the box is a dual kit , like how world eaters got the lord on juggernaut and lord invocatus, we have the ec lord and a “lord of choirs” or something

I am 99.9% sure that is it!

Any EC vehicle stuff?

They used to have Sonic Dreadnought for forgeworld, and 3.5 codex allowed you to put sonic guns on some vehicles.

The Sonic Speakers are still on the Chaos vehicle upgrade sprue.

Sonic dreadnoughts are gone gone sadly , like they used to be an option to add a blastmaster onto hellbrutes to be a “sonic dreadnoughts” but they got rid of that, maybe they’ll bring it back again when ec get hellbrutes , but I hope they do get a new one, with the rumours it doesn’t seem likely so maybe in 11th they’ll do a wave 2 with eidolon , terminators and vehicles

Trivia: that bit was originally a Dirge Caster, which was considered an "Undivided"/generic upgrade. (Probably most associated with the Word Bearers.)

The "Slaanesh" vehicle upgrade was the Warp Amp:

(I'd still love it if each of the Cult Legions got their own Vehicle Upgrade Sprue. I think it'd go a long way to making them feel fuller as a range while still sharing a fair bit of stuff with CSMs.)
