Aside from Cpt.Joyless, I'm excited to start seeing the leaks come through. I need to know if we'll have predators and hellbrutes in the army or not.

Thousand Sons, Death Guard and World Eaters can all take Predators, Helbrutes, Rhinos, Land Raiders and Defilers. Emperor's Children will be able to as well. Although if I was a betting man I doubt the defiler will make it much longer.

I can remember when that model was new and full of hopes and dreams. Finally a vehicle that chaos had all on its own...it was always a little odd in retrospect.

Defiler I think is surely going to get a reboot rather than just be dropped.

I remember the defiler being a new unit around 3rd/4th. I would love to see a reboot.

It does look like the EC has access to the heldrake I beleive.

Man I wish the close combat unit had a few special cc weapons like how the tormentors have plasma and melta guns. A few power spears would have been neat.

The lack of heavy weapons ranged or melee in our battleline units is a bit concerning.

Well, I'm guessing they want them to be fast units, so they give up heavy weapons for speed. Noise marines have all the heavy weapons.

Ironic, as the advantage of bearing Sonic Weapons had consistently been their flexible mobility.

Also, with the release of Renegades: Lord of Excess in paperback, I've finally gotten around to it. About a third of the way through, and it's a fun little book so far.

Two random things of note:

  • Colour scheme is hilariously all over the place, in way that feels unintentional. Some pages talk about purple marines doing this, then another will mention pink warriors, sometimes pink and black, and then pink-and-purple plate, sometimes pink and black with purple and teal panels... During one scene, I swear one guy's armour changes from purple to pink across two paragraphs, though maybe it was supposed to be two different people...
  • I was happy to see that Xantine is an (old definition) Noise Marine, his augmented throat screaming out a wall of sound at one point to disrupt an enemy.

Sign of the release being soon?

Definitely bodes well - he & the finecast sonic weapon upgrade packs were purged at the same time in the last 24 hours or so.

Fro what we've heard I'm a bit disappointed that the lord exultant seems to be just an EC colored standard chaos lord. The weapons might be a bit different hopefully but rules seems the same as a normal chaos lord.

We'll have to see as we don't have a lot to go off yet ('Euphoric Strikes' does sound similar in concept to 'Chance for Glory' as a once per game damage buff, but it could be very different in practice - maybe it gives precision or something to that effect). But there will be the legion trait along with enhancements and detachments at bare minimum to help differentiate the Lords Exultant from vanilla lords, so I'm not worried. Quite like having an 'EC Lord' equivalent with more specialised varieties (e.g. the Lord Kakophonist, maybe future Apothecarion/Fleshcrafter representation, etc) potentially appearing down the line. What would you have liked to see?

(I do hope it's being repackaged under a new name.)

Yeah I feel for the special edition noise marine it’s being repackaged to be a “emperors children” kit instead of a “chaos space marine kit” as it’s currently advertised

Perhaps it'll even get a slight rebrand with a teeny tiny datasheet for funsies. Something like "Master of Discordance", "Exalted Solist", or "He who wants to rock", with abilities titled after hair metal songs.

I think it’ll be like hey, if you want guitars he can be your lord kakophonist if you want

Yeah unless they’re getting rid of them in their codexes too which would be such a feel bad

It’s speculation of course, but I think the chaos factions will retain these units for not just the foreseeable future. I mean, the kits are ancient, of course, but even if they become unserviceable there are newer Horus Heresy kits available that would just require an upgrade sprue.

My main reason for thinking that they’ll stick around is that it keeps the chaos factions grounded in the heresy and the whole “long war” aspect, which seems to be something they’ve chosen to focus on for Chaos, while moving Imperium forces into the future and (gradually) away from these types of “legacy” units. So having Chaos continue to use these units serves to differentiate them from their imperial counterparts and gives them a distinct identity, while also somewhat mediating the “spiky marines” problem.

But yeah, those are just my thoughts, obviously :geek:

Yeah I think they should keep the tanks all round , also they should either make or repackage the drop pod to be a chaos drop pod.

but I feel over time when ec , we and ts get their own demon engines they’ll lose helldrakes and mauler/forgefiends

One thing I’m hoping ec get, are vindicators , thousand sons have them but world eaters don’t , has some mad anti tank , gonna need it

Any thoughts on pricing? I'm trying to figure out which way to go with my purchases of the new stuff. (Sorry to do this in CAD.)

  • Tormentors/Infractors will probably be like Infiltartors/Incursors (or Intercessors), which are $75. But Khorne Berzerkers are at $80, which I could see GW putting these out at too...
  • Noise Marines should be like Havocs at $75, but again I could see them bumped up to $80.
  • Flawless Blades like Deathshroud/Exalted Sorcerers, $75 (but maybe $80).
  • Lucius like Ahriman/Typhus at $55.
  • Lord Exultant like Chaos Lords at $53.
  • Lord Kakophonist the same, at $53.
  • Fulgrim like his brother Daemon Primarchs at $205.

Combat Patrol at $200, Launch Box at $280.

Personally I want at least: 1 Infractors (I already have twenty CSM/MkVI bodies ready for kitbashing, plus my existing melee Noise Marines to run as more of these... I really don't need more than one squad), 1 Flawless Blades (already have old Lords/Apostle/Possessed to run as more of these), 1 Noise Marines (need to rebase my old Sonic chaps), LE, LK, Lucius.

  • Bought individually: ~$395.
  • Launch Box + LK + Lucius + FBs: ~$470. [For an extra $75, an extra squad of Tormentors/Infractors, extra squad of Noise Marines, SE Codex, Datacards.]
  • Combat Patrol + LK + Lucius + NM: $390. [For $5 less, an extra squad of Flawless Blades.]

Part of me still wants the Launch Box... but man, I don't need that many Infractors... I guess I'll go for it, and then not be disappointed if I "have to settle" for the Combat Patrol.

Also from a CAD perspective, I'm assuming that noise marines will be $80 - there's an extra marine compared with havocs.

Tormentors/ infractors also assuming bezerkers price so $80

Flawless blades $75 based on eightbound.

Characters all $55 as per Phoenix lords.

I'm in for 2 army boxes, 1 combat patrol then one of each character plus fulgrim. My lumineth sold yesterday so thankfully I've funds.

I’m going for:

1x Army box

2x Combat Patrols

2x Lord Kakophonists

Lucius

Fulgrim

Yeah...

Though the Havocs are three sprues with:

  • 5 Bodies, 9 Heads
  • 2 Lascannons, 2 Missile Launchers, 2 Autocannons, 2 Heavy Bolters, 1 Chaincannon [all with matching backpack bits], Flamer, Meltagun, Plasma Gun, Accursed Weapon, Chainsword

And the Noise Marines seem to be along the lines of:

  • 6 Bodies, 12 Heads
  • (At least) 4 Sonic Blasters, 2 Blastmasters, 1 Power Sword, 1 Screamer Pistol

So an extra body, but less guns; probably also on three sprues, though maybe able to be squeezed onto two. (Not that GW prices line up with the amount of plastic in the box.)

Still, would expect the extra fiver. (Or for Havocs to get a price rise to $80 CAD themselves.)

I don't know. i just don't want copy paste special rules of a normal chaoslord.

I also hope he can get infiltrate or scout when he joins a unit or he'll hurt his troops a little.
