Wormwoods
Hey all, just thought I would cut through the noise of trawling through search results, and just ask directly: How do you all do your base magnetisation? I'm over 1,000 points with my Tau, and dreading the idea of trying to transport all this big, dumb mechs. Seems as good a time as any to finally put some magnets on bases. I'll be grabbing a magnet-suitable container for them, but wanted to confirm some details before I waste money getting things I won't actually need. So! What magnet sizes should I be using? I've seen arguments for 2x2mm as a standard for infantry, or 2x1.5mm with extra filling, or 3x2 for extra grip. Has anyone had trouble with actually getting models off a sheet safely due to too strong a magnetic hold? Any guidance would be appreciated. Ta. Grotsmasha
For standard infantry (25mm-50mm bases) I'd recommend 3-5mm diameter by 2mm, once your hitting 60mm-90mm bases, closer to 10mm by 2mm. Once you're over 100mm bases you're looking at multiple magnets. Firedrake Cordova
It's also worth looking at the pull-strength of the magnets - some of them are stronger than others, despite being the same size. Wormwoods
What's the preferred attachment method? Superglue, as I've used for weapon mounts, or do I want to be using greenstuff or some other putty? Grotsmasha
Greenstuff if you push the magnet in against a flat surface while it still has some curing to do, you will get a perfect, flush fit that will give better attachment Wormwoods 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/384281-base-magnetisation-how-big-how-many-and-how-to-fix-in-place/#findComment-6071412 Share on other sites
