The New MFM has dropped and it has a whole bunch of nerfs for Thousand Sons:

Personally I think a lot of these are pointless, as the power in the list, and thing that makes these all strong is doombolt. I think a lot of the stuff that was raised was about the right points, and all the other stuff was overcosted, so we should really have seen drops elsewhere, like 10pts off the brute, maulerfiend, predators, 20 off the vindi etc.

5 rubes+sorc+icon+1CaP+soulreaper for 110 feels about right.

90 for another 5 bolter dudes doesn't feel right, and they should allow 2 reapers, or I think drop this to +80, so a 10 man unit is 190.

I also was prepared for this. But I don´t know if it will change us to much. In one way it change nothing but in another way it could show us back into lower 45% win rate as we will have to few units, specially now when CC is geting more popular and hordemood. Shall be intersting to see what side it will be.

Yea, one of those things that I feel GW can never actually balance, which is that tourney players swap armies. These never eneding changes would be fine if peple were locked into a faction for a tourney season, however if one faction is doing well, the best players flock to it, and it does better. It then gets nerfed, the most competitive players go elsewhere, and it does worse in tourneys.

The result for Thousand Sons, as @DemonGSides said in the NRBA topic is that ultimately it probably just means one fewer units of rubrics, or one less sorcerer. For most armies, this would be ok, however for TS most (95%?) of our damage potential is locked in Magnus and a 10 man unit of scarabs and mutalith to get 36" doombolt, which now gives 2k armies 1005pts to play with, and 1500pt armies only 495pts to spend on other units to build an effective army that will be competitive. This is pretty poor.

The other units get better because of magnus, and becme greater than the sum of their parts. Remove magnus and the army seems to crumble, and the new point cost for sorcs doesn't reflect their effectiveness without magnus, I think.

big problem for us TS players, is that we hahve so few units to chose. If Magnus becomes to expensive or nerf to badly, we have nothing else that can step up and take his role. Other armies, usually have that. And that is a big problem GW need to fix. We need like 3-4 more unit to play around with. Since TS was released as a faction we have had one new unit, and that was a character. I hope GW will see this and try to fix it. We don´t need another character, we need a a couple of units (or veichles).

I think you still take Magnus, he's just going to cost you an arm and leg.

means less other characters.
