NECRON UNIT OF THE WEEK SERIES

Welcome to the Necron Unit of the Week series for 10th edition! Each week will see a different unit from the Codex, Imperial Armour, and Legends datasheets featured for discussion. The goal here is to discover and chronicle tactics for the featured unit so that new players and veterans alike can use this database to inform their strategies with the wider knowledge of the forum. The game of Warhammer 40,000 is ever changing though, and as the rules evolve throughout the edition everyone should feel free to return to older threads with the release of new FAQs/errata, changes in points values, information gathered from games played, and of course the Codex being released. These threads are also great places for newcomers to the Necrons to post their questions about tactics related to the featured units.

Please note that the purpose of this series is not to lament what the current meta deems “ineffective”, or that another unit “does it better”. Those units will get their own threads.

This week’s unit is:

Lokhust Lord

Which Lokhust unit type do you attach your Lord to?

Which weapon do you equip, and do you go for the Nanoscarab Amulet or Resurrection Orb?

Do you find use in combat as well as through the Destroyer Cult ability?

Has the Driven by Hatred ability come into play often?

I think this guy works best with a unit of regular Lokhust Destroyers but only if it is a large unit. His Resurrection Orb and ability to give Lethal Hits on a 5+ help make the unit more durable and also allows them to "punch up" against tougher targets. This allows them to threaten even tanks and monsters at a pinch.

However he is fairly pricey as he costs almost as much as 3 Destroyers so I would only use him if the unit was already at max size. If you are only running a 3-man unit of Destroyers, the points are better spent on 3 more Destroyers (either separately or in a bigger unit).

His melee potential is not enough to be worth running him solo, nor is it enough to make him a serious deterrent against enemy units assaulting the Destroyers. This guy is a bit of a relic, his stats constrained by his old model. This limits to basically being a support piece for a big unit.

Karhedron's pretty much got it surrounded.

Only think to add, is that the Lokhut Lord is also very good in Awakened Dynasty, giving the unit +1 to hit and enabling him to take the Nether-Realm Casket, giving the unit Stealth for extra durability. 2+ Hit enable you to really fish for those 5+ Lethals, it really boosts the unit's damage output.

I've used mine with 6 Destroyers in a Hypercrypt Legion, and the ability to relocate even when coming in off a table edge has kept the unit relevant longer. The occasion I've needed them elsewhere there's been the Cosmic Precision strat. I haven't yet used the Enhancement that grants Deep Strike, but I'm sure I'll need to top up a list with 20 points eventually.

I took the staff of light the first few games, but switched over to the lord's blade since. It isn't much, but I seem to get charged a lot and doing 2 damage is at least something.

Yeah, I had the same experience, the Blade might not be much, but it can keep a small unit from locking you down.
