Hello everyone, as the title says. I'm looking to jump into Heresy 2.0 after a long break. I have put off attempting it after suffering PTSD flashbacks from numerous attempts at a smooth yellow.

But the Siege of Terra is my favourite setting for the hobby, and the VIIth are my favourite Legion. So here we go again at another attempt.

This attempt is going be themed, I'm looking to have my force look like it has been fighting constantly since the first bombardment. It will be set after Book 4: Saturnine going up to the desperate fighting in Book 6: Warhawk.

So far I have finished a test scheme that is going to be the standard I'm aiming for.

It turned out better than I hoped, still experimenting with battle damage but that will get better the more I do it. Now it's just maintaining this standard through the entire project. Throne help us.

Terra stands.

That looks fantastic! My next HH army is a force of Fists defending Terra so I'll definitely be following this for tips and motivation. That yellow is very well done and so is your weathering. Have you thought about what units will be in your army yet?

Glory to Dorn and the Emperor.

Looks awesome!  I've been contemplating a similar Siege of Terra-themed Imperial Fists force, so I'll have to keep an eye on this thread too.  And I like how you did the battle damage, he looks appropriately weathered.  The only thing I noticed for possible improvement is the few chunkier horizontal scratches on his right leg in the second pic.  I think thinner scratches would fit the scale a bit better, and less uniform size and placement would help them look more natural.  The ones on the right leg are basically the same width as the ones on his shoulderpad, but the shoulderpad ones didn't catch my eye because they weren't as uniform.  These are just nitpicks though and would disappear when looking at the army or even a squad on the table.  I like how bold you were with the weathering because my natural tendency is to hold back on it haha.

Cheers dude, looking forward to seeing your progress, can keep each other going with our projects.

I have been working on a few lists, but right now I'm wanting to work with the new plastic kits. They look great, and promise a better experience to build than the FW kit. If you ever built a Fire Raptor or Storm Eagle, you will know lol.

Yeah do agree with the three strips on the leg, it's something I need to remind myself. As I paint one and just want to add other lines, when a less is more approach is needed. Attempting freehand bullet/las impacts for the batch I'm working on now. Attempting five at a time which I think is doable, in theory.

He looks great - just the right amount of weathering for me

Cheers dude, been testing so many ways of doing this, and it's good to see it's worked. Always wanted to do a grimdark type project, it's a good feeling to actually start it.

Yeah the plastic kits are great and so much better to work with than resin. I do hope the rest of the range gets plastic treatment quickly!

In the next couple of weeks I'll be doing my testers for my IF force and will start a thread too, I don't want to hijack anyones, so we can definitely motivate one another.

I have the books on order so not fully updated on the rules as of yet, been working off Book 3 Extermination haha.

My force is going to be based around a denial company, lots of breachers and some Vindicators to slow the traitors down. I look forward to seeing your lists.

Hello everyone, have an update and I have finished batch painting five dudes for my first Tactical Squad. I have taken a before and after to show how much hell they through in the battle damage phase.

So this is how they look before I start ruining their parade ready look.

This is them afterward. I tried varying the damage on each one and I think it worked. Can get individual pics if people want to see them up close.

The important thing is that they go with my first attempt. Just need to work on their bases plus eye lenses once the shade has fully set.

Pretty hyped to seeing a full force like this. I have something special planned for the Sergeant but need the Close Combat box coming to order this week.

I do have a 3000 point list I am aiming to do like this as a first force. It is a Crusade List with no Rite of War. They will come later.

Thanks for all the interest in this project too, it really helps keeping at it.

Until next time, Terra Stands.

Hello everyone, thanks for all the interest again and apologies for lack of updates. I've recently become a Dad, and looking after a rampaging newborn has really cut into any free time I have. Been worth it though.

I do have a small update for the Squad Leader.

20241107_032437.thumb.jpg.5bca0c03b6e876cca0f7d38e7496e57f.jpg

This, is one of my Veterans from Heresy 1.0. Marksman Vets were awesome until that skill was removed. I have a bunch of these, and I'm wanting to reuse the torso and helmet for my squad leaders going forward. While I think it would be passable as is, it does look a bit stumpy compared next to the MK6 armour.

20241107_032500.thumb.jpg.fc1bd93955615ceb3ca4037738eebf78.jpg

After a failed attempt, and wondering why I thought this was a good idea. I managed to get this result.

Still working out a better way to strip paint from FW resin, I did use a thick coat on that yellow attempt.

20241107_032512.thumb.jpg.10324e3aa8705966bd5b5fb0d61a07b6.jpg

But he does fit in better with the squad now. He is as tall as the tacticals, plus unique enough to represent Artificer Armour when I'm points rich.

I do think I can make this look better for future squad leaders or a Centurion. But for now, I have to leave it there. I'm waiting on the Close Combat Weapons pack that's out in over a week. Until then, it's batching the last eight dudes.

Then bases.

Then Terminators.

Congratulations on the miniature future hobbyist!

Yellow's a complete pain of a colour to get right, due to the relatively low coverage of a lot of the paints. The models in the last picture look really nice - a good strong yellow

  • 2 weeks later...

Maybe batch painting nine at once has not been the best idea, but we have the rest of the squad ready for transfers and battle damage.

The combat weapons pack arrived today. And it's a good kit with what's on offer for it.

I'm happy I waited and put in a little extra for the sergeant. When finished, it will look like a Veteran from another era of the Legion leading the future members.20241117_044229.thumb.jpg.1e1874f5b846ba90b7fdc18cb96bbc06.jpg

Next update will be the whole squad battle damaged, hopefully with bases done too.

I feel your pain, I decided to batch paint all 70 Tactical Marines for my Heresy Fists (2 Tac Squads, 2 Heavy Support, & a Support squad) together - I still have mild ptsd from it, never again :laugh:

Yours look great, well done on getting such a vibrant yellow!

That's impressive dude, if you didn't hear an achievement unlock sound when you finished. Here it is now.

Thank you  I guess it'd have felt more of an achievement if I didn't have the other 2000 points worth of stuff to finish the army still to paint after I'd got those done

That yellow is really nice, great work!
I learned my lesson with batch painting years back trying to do an entire foot guard army in 2 weeks for a tournament :D
