Hey up - i think the merging posts feature is great - wish this was on some other boards I post on - but given most separate posts that get merged are making different points, is it possible it could be changed to add in a break/blank line between the merged sections, so they are separate paragraphs?

This is not a result of any setting that can be changed by the admins. If anything can be done in terms of software, it will reside within the theme; and I'm not sure that the theme has that capability since it's more like CSS in that it simply takes the content and controls how it is presented (rather than making any adjustments to the content). The only thing I can think of that might work is something that will affect all content, creating more negative space everywhere and having more of an adverse effect. We will look into it, however, to see if there is anything that we can do.

Such mergers happen in two ways:

The most common is when the software automatically merges two (or more) posts because the member has posted in quick succession within 2 minutes. When this happens, the member can edit the separation into the content.

Alternately, staff members may see two or more sequential posts by a member and they may merge the posts if they were submitted within a relatively short period of time. There is no prescribed time range for this, but it will generally be minutes (more than 2, obviously). Occasionally, this might happen if multiple posts by the same member appear within a few hours, but that's very rare. In such cases, the staff member performing the merger should ensure separation between paragraphs.

Do you have links to any instances where you can see this happening?
