jimbo1701
Hi all. finally trying to get some painting done and am looking to add some scorch marks to a drop pod, basically black drybrushed on. Only issue is the area I am dry brushing over has a decal on it and the drybrush effect makes the entire decal area very obvious. I tried using some thinned matte varnish over the panel but the problem was the same. Any ideas? thanks in advance. Solution Grotsmasha Posted November 10 Solution Share Posted November 10 (edited) You will need to varnish over the decal and panel (highlighted in Red. I use Citadels 'Ardcoat, allow it it dry, then bring it back to a Matte finish with Lahmian Medium) then paint over that, as it will give the paint the same, even surface to go over. In this case, you may need to go back to clean white around the decal, varnish, then start the weathering again, or that decal edge may still stand out. I did try a matte varnish over the top which wasn’t effective but I will try the gloss then lahmium instead. I have 3 unweathered panels to experiment with though theyve all been matte varnished now. jimbo1701
I may as well ask for any tips to avoid streaking with the angrin red clear which I use as a glaze for this scheme at the end. It looks better once varnished and worse on big flat panels. Firedrake Cordova
Warhipster has a video on using Contrast paints on vehicles, which might be of help (I imagine the issues are the same/similar): (there's also an hour-long one where they paint a Rhino) jimbo1701 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/384559-drybrushing-over-decals-help/#findComment-6075537 Share on other sites
