Was wondering if anybody has tried the fan supplement for Deathwatch, The Good, the Bad, and the Alpha Legion? I've convinced my group to give it a try but none of them except one are really into 40K. They know the basics as we're all veterans of WFRP 2e and have elected to do a traitor campaign. How well did this system work for you?

So far one player is making a World Eater and another a Word Bearer. Calth is a cool wargame scenario but it doesn't leave much in future aspects for traitors. Anyone know of other campaigns that may be a good fit? There's still one undecided player so that may change things. The first session is going to be this week and will mostly be the players meeting pre-heresy for some great crusading. If anyone's interested, I'll post an after action report.

I haven't seen the supplement, but we did have a HH Shattered Legions game going in the PBP forum for a while, using DW rules and just using the appropriate Chapter rules from First Founding, etc for the various Legions.

Obviously that only covered the loyalist Legions, but you could easily use other Chapters to represent the Legions that turned (Flesh Tearers or Space Sharks rules for World Eaters, IF for IW, etc)

The game has unfortunately stalled, but it was really great while it lasted...

Never heard of this fandex before, but have now acquired a copy and am leafing through it. Some interesting ideas, and as a sourcebook for GM's looking to run a Heresy Campaign, so far, it's worth having a shufty.

For our regular group in this forum I've uploaded it to the usual Google Drive folder.

Appreciate this being brought to our attention @Malice Jr., and by all means, post your exploits!

Which folder have you added it to, boss? I can't see it anywhere?

Should be in the Deathwatch Books folder. I'll PM you (and anyone else who wants it) the link.

Is it better than the AdMech book?

Also welcome Malice Jr to the RPG Nook of the B&C.

The memes are certainly more tasteful.

I can only imagine what that entails :ermm:.  What's the title to this AdMech supplement?

Sounds like I'm breaking new ground as I haven't really found anyone else using the rules either. I'm writing the first scenario now, a small flotilla from the expeditionary fleet discovers a lost pocket of humanity that naturally fails to comply to the standards of the IoM...

It's for Only War, but cleaving beyond the nonsense, there are some excellent statblocks, rules and ideas that a canny GM can adapt.

It's called: 'Mars needs women'.

Myself and a few other Frater have lamented the silliness, because if the author had taken it as seriously as the Liber Badab (an exceptional fandex for the Badab War using the Horus Heresy rules) then it would have been top notch.

Alas...

Sounds like a good place to start! I wish you luck with your game, and please keep us updated with how it marches!

As Mazer said it has some good content once you ignore the immaturity defects.

With Mazer’s (as GM) guidance and some of the rules from said fandex I got to play a Castellax Battle Automaton in a little prologue game to the aforesaid Hersey game that had been going on in the play by post sub forum. Fun times, alas Tyr-Ix-375 gave its live on the black sands of Isstvan (or at least nearby, in a bunker complex of some sort as I recall) for the Loyalist cause.

As long as your players are on the same page and intend to play for fun then using then a fandex should be fine. Let us know how it goes, and if you ever want to play post by post here keep an eye open for when a new game starts.

So we had our first session this weekend with a party of three players. None of them play 40k or 30k and their only background is Warhammer Fantasy. Imagine my surprise when they show up with:

Taron, a World Eater assault marine.

Jurgen (does not know of Caiaphas Cain), a World Eater assault marine, and

Sven, a Word Bearer breacher marine.

A death on Calth seems pre-ordained.

We started the session by clarifying what's occurring in the Great Crusade and what space marines are. The World Eaters determine their chapter are complete knuckleheads who must constantly prove their strength. They do this by ejecting themselves out an airlock and seeing who can hold their breath the longest.. while wearing their vacuum sealed oxygen supplied suits.

After some wrangling, their expedition fleet gets exciting news; a transmission of human origin has been discovered and a company of WE and WB are being sent to investigate. Along the way they attend a Lodge meeting and introductions are made. The players are so ready to turn traitor they promoted most of the WB's talking points, even though their new teammate had some interesting views on divinity.

The companies draw lots and wouldn't you know it the zealot and the oxygen deprived bash brothers have been chosen to lead a small delegation. However, the fleet is now receiving a signal begging for forgiveness due to the "levies being unfulfilled". Upon landing the party discovers that this world is a lost knight world but almost all of its industrial complexes have fallen into ruin. The house Scion, Lord Arkhyle answers to gene-modded human named Gallianus who is the Masters' ambassador. The expeditionary fleet was mistaken for the levy tithe fleet. The party discovers a xenos species has been taking slaves from the vassalized planet. A quick deal is made with Arkhyle to launch an attack on the Masters and bring them into the IoM. Taron tries infiltrating a complex and discovers it to be a prison for the levies.

The session ended with the players making plans to ambush the Masters. No combat as of yet, but they'll be dealing with armored vehicles and enemy hordes in the next session.

I had to laugh at the commentary.

Sounds like a great start, and I reckon things are going to get spicier from here on in.

Nice!

But it is so much more fun witout the Vac suit and oxygen tank...

Sounds like you had a great session.

They're a good crew, 2 have been playing for 2 decades with me and the other has been around just over 10 years. Sadly the next session isn't for two weeks so it will be a minute before we see how the actual combat mechanics do.
