Warhammer popped up as a question on this evening's Brain of Britain.

The question itself was something like, "Space Marines, Blood Angels and Grey Knights appear in which game produced by Games Workshop?", with the contestant confidently responding "Warhammer 40,000". "Yes, it's also known as Warhammer 40k" adds the host before they move on.

Not something I expected to hear on Radio 4, but there we are - properly establishment now :)

I misread this as “Brian of Britain” and thought a limited edition imperial guard standard bearer or something was getting released, or a new James Workshop type character was going to appear.

Could have been a model styled after Brian Blessed in his Flash Gordon duds

This would be superb - possibly an administratum clerk looking a little lost as he is handed the standard, whilst loaded down with a bag of scrolls and a mug of recaf.

Ahem...

Yes, it's been noticeable for a while now that there has been a growth in the number of articles about both the company and the hobby from mainstream media. The BBC had a couple of articles during lockdwon about how GW had paid back the government Covid subsidies as it did so well out of house-bound hobbyists. There have also been sporadic articles about the hobby itself. Part of this is simply likely to be hobbyists getting jobs where they are in a position to commission/approve articles about the company/hobby and that, in itself, is probably also a demonstration of how commonplace it is now.
