Had to do a double take when I opened Warcom and saw Alpharius' spear on the Rumour Engine.

 

I guess it could be Omegon? But the Pale Spear is supposed to be one of a kind, isn't it? But I guess they'd make a weapon that looks extremely similar even if it doesn't have the same properties just to do what the Alpha Legion does?

It’s a simpler design compared to the FW sculpt’s pale spear. Could it be a weapon of a regular Alpha Legionnaire, taking inspiration from the pale spear?

Doing a quick read up ( on lexicanum, so i dont know the accuracy) this is the likeliest outcome. Even why it could look slightly different is described.

They could easily slip something like that on a Night Lords style upgrade frame for Alpha Legion.

Some alpha legion stuff would be fantastic, but since the Pale spear is a necron weapon in origin, it might as well be some random as necron model

Oh this is excellent.

 

I hope he's a campaign book character rather than a BL Celebration character, as the former may mean we see a dedicated Alpha Legion unit for Kill Team (plus upgrades).

Is it confirmed Necron? Or just ‘unknown Xenos’ that is hinted/likely to be Necron? Because this doesn’t actually look much like what Necron blades actually look like in 40k model form.

The roadmap had "BIG NAMES" and "SPECIAL CHAOS TREATS" on it. Getting Akurra would tick both boxes (even if I was assuming it'd be Huron Blackheart).

Akurra looks very cool with his epic dreadlocks; but wasn’t the AL’s whole point that they were all bald and pale ans visuall hard to tell apart? Or is that just in the memes?

That was mostly the case for the 30k legion (hence the memes), but by 40k the AL has splintered in wildly divergent warbands.

Also, there's another possibility for this rumour engine: Dark Eldar wyches

Is that hinting/likelyness because of the phase technology ? I think more described xenos have that than just necrons.

In my quickreading ( I literally know anything about the above since the last hour.) I thought it looked remniscent of the BFG fra'al ship in shape. But I dont think they did phase tech. Still I believe to remember fra'al had many encounters with HH era imperium/marines, but they are far less mentioned than Hrud nowadays afaik.

Oh, your right, it was hinted/speculated about being necron and that kinda stuck with me. Alpha Legion it is then, like many already said, maybe Akurra, which would be great

This was my first thought when I saw the rumor engine as well, although the haft we see is very un-eldarlike. ( so I assumed Emperors children, AoS slaanesh also mimics aelven stylings.)

 

But when I went to B&C to discuss I saw the TO image, and I think the shape is too close to that weapon to not be related to it ( and reading up on it, it either has to be the pale spear itself or the xenos it came from, the latter I give a 0.00001% chance )

However, I'd see it being an Emperors children weapon still as a possibility, just less likely than the aforementioned BL character option.

My first thought before coming here was necrons tbh, and if the weapon referenced above is of unknown xenos origin then that would make sense.

 

Ultimately what is previewed is not the same weapon that has been shown for the alpha legion, there are some small but significant differences between the 2, though it is very similar.

 

Either they have tweaked the design slightly which has happened multiple times before, it is a different weapon made to look like the original which is not uncommon, or most likely in my opinion, this is a deliberate misdirect and is a new necron.

What I read it seems putting this exact spear on an AL upgrade sprue would be akin to putting the Emperors sword on an Ultramarine upgrade sprue though.

This is what came to my mind too. It does look a little more like Alpharius to me, though.
