I'm curious what other peoples' experience has been: what legion is the one you see the least of when gaming or attending events.
Out of all the legions I rarely see, up until recently, it was a tie between Death Guard and Iron Hands, but since I have played against Iron Hands, Death Guard are the only ones I don't think I've even seen, only in hobby posts.

Iron hands and White Scars. And I must say, Sons of Horus. I think I'm the only SoH player here.

In the opposite corner, lot of Dark Angels, Alpha Legion, Iron Warriors,  World Eaters and Imperial  Fists.

White scars and Iron Hands. I see everyone else pretty commonly. I think no one likes painting white and Iron Hands are just kind of boring, I think SoH, NL, IF, and BA are the most common legions which is why I try to do something different with my NL.

Well, World Eaters are pretty common and are painted in white. I think the problem is the use of so many jet bikes and speeders more than the colours. A bit messy

Yeah when was the last time someone posted a 30k Salamander on the forum (aside from @sarabando, but he’s using the extra-cool alternative scheme inspired by Rogue Trader era. I mean a green one. You don’t even see people bothering to argue “that’s not the right kind of green for the heresy” when painting their rivets.)?

I think Salamanders are in the middle of the list. In the lower middle but still above Iron Hands, for example

Ditto. I think it doesn’t help that they’re one of the worst supported legions from a model perspective, along with RG, IW etc, and they don’t have a lot of fluff and detailed involvement in the heresy after the drop site massacre.

The lack of models definitely doesn't help. But I think playstyle and painting is another big factor. IW are easily the most common army I see, and I think because they're easy to build successful lists that are flavorful along with a very easy paint scheme that looks good on the table helps them.

I’d definitely agree that Salamanders are pretty rare from my own experience. I’ve only ever seen one army of them and it was really a 40k firstborn army pulling double duty as a heresy army rather than a dedicated 30k force.

That said, I’ve also never seen a Space Wolves army in real life either but I think that’s just me being unlucky as I think they’re pretty popular overall.

Overall I think the lack of Salamanders forces is down to the reasons already stated:

1) Lack of model support

2) No particularly unique or interesting playstyle

3) Not a huge focus in the narrative after the drop site massacre

Some of the other Legions also suffer from one or two of these things but I can’t bring to mind any others that suffer from all three (although I appreciate point 2 is somewhat subjective).

i see yellow sallis more than green.

i dont see word bearers or iron hands that often. Surprisingly i see white scars almost the most after SOH
