Indy Techwisp
https://www.warhammer-community.com/en-gb/articles/fhfdei4x/grotmas-calendar-celebrate-with-a-daily-warhammer-40000-detachment-this-december/ So this year's Christmas thing is the Grotmas Calendar (replacing the Advent Engine) which will give us new Detachments for all the 40k armies (and Deathwatch). For now, this is a speculation thread for what could be in those Detachments, but it's a good idea for there to already be a Thread for it up once they start releasing. Things we know so far: These are usable in tournament play. These are in addition to the Codex detachment you have or will have for your army. They are designed to, quote, "Support army narratives that we felt are not fully represented in the current or upcoming Codexes". Enhancement points will be included in the download. Deathwatch get a Detachment. Daemons are getting Four. Focslain
Hoping for an all armigar knight detachment. Something like a hunting pack and the old Bastard's Helm enhancement. VanDutch
I’d really appreciate another T’au detachment, preferably one centred around stealth (Dal’yth Sept). Kharn13
4 Daemon detachments. My guess is that CSM will be a Be’lakor detachment in preparation for removal of Daemons. HeadlessCross
This is how GW should be doing rules by default. Kudos to them for it instead of making paid DLC. The main thing to keep in mind is that this is also going to be in addition to whatever balance changes are gonna be thrown at Codex Marines and any other rules changes. For a competitive player, it's gonna create a lot of brainstorming. Plaguecaster
I’m happy there will finally be god specific detachments for daemons Been so annoying there is no benefit for running monogod with only one enhancement per god Dr_Ruminahui, Mana and Special Officer Doofy 1 2 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/384654-grotmas-calendar-2024-new-detachments-edition/#findComment-6077008 Share on other sites

Whole bunch of new detachments and Enhancements along with balance changes could really mess up a lot of habits that have ingrained themselves in the Comp Scene over the course of the edition. That's good. I'd rather have tons of discussion than for stagnation. I expect conversations here and Reddit to be exciting! Indy Techwisp
For some actual predictions for what these are: Deathwatch- Since there's a big Rebalancing happening around the same time, I think the "Deathwatch Rework" isn't just going to be this Detachment, rather I feel this will be one of 2 AoI detachments that takes advantage of whatever the rework is (My guess is just moving the rest of the Legends Killteams to AoI). Daemons- We know it's the 4 Monogod Detachments, yes. However, there's a slim possibility that they focus on an Aspect of the Monogod stuff that the Codex misses in playtesting. Tzeentch not doing enough dice trickery, Nurgle not being Tanky enough, Slaanesh not going fast enough and Khorne not focusing on Cav enough, that kind of thing. Loyalist Space Marines- Firstly I'm assuming GW count the Supplements as a Codex and thus the Divergent Chapters get yet another Detachment to use. Secondly, what's left of Generic Marines that needs an update? How about Drop Pod Assault. Currently Drop Pods are kinda bad, but maybe they'd be improved with Detachment Support? Chaos Space Marines- Usually, Be'lakor's personal Army that let's him play CSM goes in Daemons, but since they're confirmed to be getting the 4 Monogod Detachments, I'll it here in CSM, presumably with a rule saying that an Allied in Be'lakor becomes your Warlord regardless of any rules saying he cannot. Thousand Sons- Brayherd. Better here than in the codex. Alternatively, if it's not Brayherd then it's already 100% wasting pages in our Codex. T'au Empire- An actual Combined Arms Detachment. Currently it's All Kroot or No Auxiliary Benefits, so they need a middle ground. HeadlessCross
The easiest fix to Codex Marines is to just let everyone take each other's characters like in 5th. Using Kantor with Sternguard in a Ultramarines Vanguard would hardly be broken. None of the other Codices have issues with this. Astra Militarum is great because of this, but not broken. In fact, I'd argue (especially with the nerfs to Firestorm Assault, RIP my Salamanders lists) none of the Marine characters are good enough on their own to lose access to everything Ultramarines get. Only problem with that is you just end up buffing the Divergent Chapters even more 'cause then all of them, by virtue of still technically being an [Adeptus Astartes] army, could then just grab everyone else's characters. You're still making LSM not worth taking because you're still down all the Unique units of a Divergent Chapter and that chapter can just take your preferred chapter's characters as well. The supplements already kinda cover that though, don't they? Something to the effect of "You can only draw units from XYZ Keyword"? Matrindur
4 hours ago, Blindhamster said: I actually dont think divergent chapters are going to get anything. Just a hunch. Could be, we have 8 Xenos factions, 6 Chaos factions or 9 if every deamon type gets one (don't see it in the article?) and 6 Imperium factions. That would be 23. With Index Deathwatch, a generic SM one and Greyknights that is already 26 so assuming we are only getting one per day thats already two more than we have days. But since they even highlighted the "each and every faction" I think its more likely we simply get more than one per day (For example all daemons or both knights on the same day) If we actually get one for every possible faction we are at 7 different Space Marine factions so 30 total. Bouargh
Did I read it right? ONE detachment for 40k per day? Should we be worried about quality and impact; coz looks like a little bit too otT to be make me feel comfortable.
