I think there's strong play here but I think the current Index detachment, with all the fixes it received, is gonna be taken more often due to flexibility as a whole.

I think that's in no small part because that's the way people have grown used to building the list... So for people who wanna leave the Rhinos at home, this is a good option. It's kinda like Drukhari, but a bit in reverse... People moved to the new one because it was really good, but they slowly wandered back to the old one  as things shifted, whereas here I think it's not as obvious that you should make the move, but it'll be a bit of a sleeper. Stealth is better than alot of people seem to think, and there are some cool strats and enhancements. I give this an 'A'.

Cheers,

The Good Doctor.

In regards to Deathwatch, I'm sure they mentioned on the preview stream that they will be getting their own Index.

Have they said anywhere when these download detachments will be going into the Battle Forge app? Pretty counter productive if they only do them as downloads and can't build an army in their own app with them.

In early January from this article:

Heavy disagree on Plague Marines there being used without a Rhino. Rhinos are already super good by themselves and a Scout move is no replacement for a transport for them.

Giving DG infantry Scout and Stealth as long as they're not in rhinos is pretty good. The scout move is ok, but not a replacement for a Rhino, but the increase in survivability with Stealth is very nice. Some of the strats are interesting as well- I like the one that gives Pistol to all non-Blast weapons for an infantry unit, very useful to help wipe away a tarpit squad that is tying up one of your squads.

To be honest, I was half-expecting some thematic-but-kinda-garbage detachments as a sort of "here's something during the holidays" from GW.  This first one is actually pretty interesting and gives DG a new and useful set of tools.  I'm a little heartened.  Hopefully the rest are of similar quality.

Well according to the leaks, brought to light by the good Lord Valrak.

tomorrow is

Lion’s Blade Task Force - Dark Angels

Tuesday by the sound of that detachment is either going to be Aeldari or Necrons.

Starshatter Arsenal - Only Eldar and Necrons typically have ‘Star’ in their naming conventions, so it’s likely to be one of those 2.

Wednesday is some sort of warp shenanigan chaos doohickey, maybe more Tzeentchian trickery

Hexwarp Thrallband - Sounds Warpy psychic Tzeentch, but also enthralling people could also be Slaaneshian too.

Interesting, I had Shatterstar Arsenal as being T'au - not sure why but that's where my mind went.

And I was expecting these to be between Interesting and solid in general- apparently Josh Roberts has been overseeing these and whatever else, the man understands what makes 40k tick from the competitive side.

Startide nexus is the first word springing to mind, I think there is more use of the word star in Tau then anywhere else I believe.

Edit: not to mention Arsenal gives me tau big gun vibes too

Combined arms detachment between RW and DW; should have seen that coming, since we had that in the past.

Combined Wings DA? Looks like a it might take more effort to make the most of it but if Outriders are RW then I could see them being a cheap ish unit to tag targets for your Terminators, it definitely pushes you to play differently so that's a plus imo. Hope DA players make the most of it an enjoy it.

Lion's Blade will be a tricky detachment to get right- Ravenwing aren't the best units out there so taking them is going to be very much a balancing act between using their utility and just taking more Deathwing stuff. Lots of tricky strats too. Not my particular style, but will be fun to see some new DA lists testing this out.

It's not great, but I think ATV's and maybe even some of the Speeder variants might be the key as opposed to JUST Outriders.

Probably not worth it over GTF for most DA competitive lists, but I think the combined arms approach is fun and fluffy.

Unlike the Death Guard detachment, which I think has neat tools, this one offers little vs just going Gladius or even Stormlance. Desperate Escape bonus is cute but that's about it. I'd rather just advance + charge any Terminator, which is doable in the aforementioned Detachments one should take.

Here's the kicker though: you can take that combined arms force in any other detachment. This new detachment is just strictly boring vs the Death Guard one.
