Warp Spiders have been my favorite aspect since I started 40k back in 4th, so I'm thrilled with these. I told myself I won't buy models until I can get my existing models under control (ie build enough to get rid of the massive piles of sprues I have everywhere and make room) so I gotta get to work so I can get these!

The phoenix lord is indeed great.

Even if the inspiration from "Darren cross" mechanical limbs from Antman is for me a nearmiss for the 2 monofilament injectors/ovipositors

I am however less convinced by the spiders themselves. A lttle bit too skinny maybe. Or is it their helmet which is a tad too tall? They are ok but I am not super enthusiast.

There is indeed a very puzzling "coincidencial" design between the WArtel design issued years ago and this new phoenix lord...

She's the only Eldar model I don't like from the new release. The helmet, the sculpted special effects, even more robotic arms. She looks like a Spiderverse villain. Also, since the new Guardians kept female torsos, I don't understand while she didn't get one. Feels pointless to make the new Phoenix Lord female if nothing marks her as one. In guard there are at least head sculpts (+ male Banshee exarch). Aside form Banshees, Aspects aren't locked to particular sex, i.e. they are not locked to male because of Khaine, right?

I like this model, aside from the busy Warp/web effect "inspired" by third party designs. Would probably cut that off and just pose her on the column itself. And those Spiderverse bits look cool to me. Can definitely see why the sculpt would not be to someone's liking though.

It looks like her chest is covered by some kind of harness for her Warp rig, and the model itself does seem to have a more feminine body type (although you never can tell with elves). They also make it very clear in the article that this Phoenix Lord is a female, saying "she" or "her" at least six times in the description.

So in this case the styling is probably not meant to appease those folks who get the vapors from "boob armor," but more because of all of the doodads she is wearing.

It still their choice. As a side note, it seems inspired by the old exarch, who also had hexagonal box on the chest.

Reminds me a bit of the Void Dragon Shard - lots of construction material fragments connected by lightning.

Good to see an all-new Phoenix Lord. With the others being updated as well, that leaves just one Phoenix Lord left that's un-updated - Karandras, the Striking Scorpions lord.

Sold. I appreciate the comic/manga vibe on Lhykis, and the squad themselves look totally correct. I'm glad they didn't alter the wargear on the main squad even though it means that still look a little static with the big backs, heads and guns.

New wargear options also look like fun - all blades exarch will probably be my build for Lhykis bodyguard, and the spinneret will probably find its way into my Corsairs somehow.

Cheers,

The Good Doctor.

The Warp Spiders are fantastic, no complaints there. I wish the Exarch had the thigh webs but otherwise superb. Lhykis, though...Hmmm. There's things I like, notably the sword and helmet, but overall she's too overdesigned for my tastes, and the energy effect is just daft.

You hear that Mr. Anderson? That is the sound of inevitability... the sound of your wallet's death.

So is all that is left for the aspects now to get redone Karandras and Dire Avengers?

Dire avengers have a plastic box already. I think the idea behind new Asurmen was to make him look as much like them as possible - right down to the "beard" that the modern Dire Avenger exarch has.

So that just leaves Karandras.

Dire Avengers will get redone too, they look super dated (18 years old!), and are older than the guardsmen that got refreshed.

I imagine they weren't included here as they will be a Kill Team, what with them being the third type the Blades of Khaine can take. So expect them in one of the next couple of box sets.

Dire Avengers just got promoted to one of the older Infantry Kits left in the Aeldari range.

They were definitely due an update before this point however the 30+ years old Aspect Warriors were ahead of them in the queue.

Counter argument; none of the aspects seem to have the phoenix lords armour differ in shape from the aspect warriors. Banshees are all in feminine armour, and every other aspect is in masculine armour.

Plus A-Cups/B-Cups exist.

Plus the actual biological Aelf doesn't determine the Gender of the Phoenix Lord since when they take up the mantle they just... become the Phoenix Lord.

Aspect Warriors do the same kind of thing where the Armour doesn't change for males or females (I think the "Back of Box" image for the Ynnari Howling Banshee is a Male Aelf).
