What distinctive feature will the mounted minis bring to the game where we already have a cav unit (unless it is segregated in strategies a la Serberys Rangers vs. Sulphurhounds)? Will they stay as previous FW rules? Same for all flavours of artilleries, Command and Engineers: all VERY beautiful, but I am not too sure yet about their intrinsic usefulness... They talked about it in the preview. The Krieg cavalry is less “kill on the charge”, like the rough riders, and are more geared for a continuous grind. The artillery also has different weapons than the field artillery. GW will sell a ton of these and they are in the making money business. I have been waiting as I’ve always loved AM and the Krieg aesthetic was my favorite. I didn’t want to spend for the resin and loved the plastic kill team models. Popular armies will always get more. Always. It’s why the big release for my Admech was a stilt sniper and nothing else. They’re not a popular army. I feel for you if you’ve been waiting for stuff for your favorite army and haven’t got anything. Or are you going to tell me that Orks and Sisters aren't popular because their release this edition has been single models? Deus_Ex_Machina
Gorgeous minis as expected. Though there is a need to raise concern: Collecting an Imp army had always been a daunting task. Too many models and very costly. So what are people going to do with them? Play skirmish games or use 2nd 40k rules where you only need a fraction of those models? chapter master 454
Well frag...that is one incredible set of miniatures. Time to get me some krieg now as well to go along with catachans and cadians! Maybe need to sharpie their name to Crieg as to alliterate them with Cadians and Catachans! Seriously want to just 3 of those big guns, 3 FOBs and 3 HWTs with mortars and just have the full shelling experience! (and that would the triple too, the big gun is Krieg, FOBs are Cadian and HWTs are Catachans!) Indy Techwisp
I'm pretty certain in one of the pictures you can see a Kreig Engineer with a Backpack covered in Stick Grenades, I'd say they almost certainly a merged Engineer/Grenedier unit. skylerboodie and LSM 1 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/384659-krieg-boxset/page/2/#findComment-6077172 Share on other sites

This is sadly the case. It doesn’t make sense for them to make a fourth stormtrooper unit but between the loss of grenadiers, engineers, and the high command in unique armor a huge amount of depth to the Krieg has been lost. Norman Paperman
I've been eyeing Guard as a second army for a while now, but Cadian infantry and tanks don't really excite me all that much. These models, and especially the guns, are going to get me to dive in. All four options for the Artillery Team are amazing, heavy support squads and their options are amazing, command squad with toilet paper servo skulls are amazing, I love it all. The "horses" aren't my favourite cavalry pieces that GW's done, but I like them enough I can see myself enjoying the painting project. The lances are pretty sweet, and I think you can do a lot of work with the paint on the horses to make them a bit more flavourful than what they've got in the previews. I don't really want the Lord Marshall of the Krieg in my army for flavour reasons, but I'll just call him "Brigadier Jim" and then he can charge Tau gunlines to cover himself in glory. To address the sidebar about the phone and gas masks, yes it makes a lot of sense to have the communication units built into the masks, but I have two notes. One, I have to think that wireless signals are somewhat susceptible to jamming, particularly if the transmitter is connecting to a power source that's small enough to fit inside a helmet. The Heavy Support squad Fire Coordinator has a wired connection to a much larger box, which will allow it to have a much more powerful transmission signal and more computing power to cut through enemy jamming. A built-in headset would work, but he'd be carrying that big-ol box on his back instead and he's already got a pack there. Second, you can talk clearly when you've got a gas mask on. Admittedly, I don't know the lore of what the materials and realities of a Krieg rebreather are, but I'd think that they need to be able to communicate clearly with each other down a noisy gunline, you can talk into a handheld phone and be heard clearly. calgar101 and Ayatollah_of_Rock_n_Rolla 1 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/384659-krieg-boxset/page/2/#findComment-6077176 Share on other sites
Marshal Rohr
The gas masks actually have wireless connections for the phones so you can hear and speak clearly when you hold them up to your face. Elzender
Honestly, big fan of the death riders, I never paid a lot of attention to the FW riders themselves so I cannot say how much of a sculpt detail downgrade they are, but at least the poses are quite dynamic and charging forward (the last available FW riders were all static, I don't know if they used to offer running/charging ones. Would anyone know by chance if an approximate release date was mentioned during the preview? It would be a tempting Christmas gift to mention to relatives/partner, but I assume the release window will be quite narrow if it does happen in time for Christmas. I wonder if they will eventually release a Krieg stormtrooper units, seeing how the engineers use similar/same facemasks and extra armour as the long gone FW stormtroopers (I just checked the FW engineers and while they did rock extra armour, the skull faceplate seems a stormtrooper only addition). Edit: I started this comment this morning, got distracted by life and came back to it now - I see the grenadier topic has already been brought up, and while I see what people mean with it being merged to engineers, I feel GW might be aware of how sought after they are. It would not surprise me too much if they wait a few months/a year for people to buy engineers to convert, and then release a storm trooper kill team so people can buy them all over again. They said no exact dates for anything shown as far as I know, but they did say the Guard would be "first army of the new year", so most likely a January release. No idea if it'll be the boxset and everything else, or just the boxset and some time later the standalone Codex and kits. Not necessarily. right now the subfaction keywords are only really existent for explicitly cadian units like the battleline unit and the cadian command squad, everything else, including Kasrkin merely has their unit keyword which may include words like Krieg, or Attilan, but do not contain the Keywords "Krieg" or "Attillan". This could of course just mean that they may start now to introduce more subfaction keywords and exclusivity like the SM codex, but I'm fairly certain the regular battery will remain neutral. Haha, in my experience it's definitely a bit muffled, but it's not so bad that you can't understand someone from across a room or when standing at decent distances outside. Quote Phone rings. Speaker 1 picks up. Speaker 1: [muffled noises] Speaker 2: [muffled noises] Speaker 1: [muffled noises] Speaker 2: [muffled noises] Speaker 1: [slightly louder muffled noises] Speaker 1 hangs up.
