Thanks for doing this again. Not a good patrol at all, again nothing really that you want for a core of a force, which CPs are supposed to be. Even more dumb if this replaces the current combat patrol, as it probably will. Very poor choice.

Thank DemonGSides for actually remembering what it was

I found it so bland I forgot we even saw it!

I completely agree though but I wonder how much is trying to balance Combat Patrol (as a game) set by set instead of sitting down and working it all out so the boxes are fair against each other but still offer a taste of what that faction is about.

The 40k team really need to crib notes from Spearhead.

A big pile of vouchers from the family at Christmas means I'm definetly buying this and may consider a second box. Unlike most, for me it's the horseys and artillery that are the main draw for me rather than the engineers. Think I'll be painting the riders with red uniforms and plenty of brass to match the Vostroyan Infantry I have.

A considerable amount of time will be spent on release day (in the pub of course) studying the codex and seeing if a cavalry force of 30 death riders and 30 rough riders could be made to work *begins reciting Charge of the Light Brigade to himself*

When this was first announced I was all-aboard the hype train, but now I find myself waffling back and forth on it. I'm still only a painter, so while I don't mind jumping into a new faction because I love the models, a lot of box value goes into non-minis. Considering the price point (and Chaos is right around the corner), that's five too many horses and a lot of stuff I can't paint. I might just wait until the full line is released and then get the stuff I really want (toilet paper servo skull and all the artillery+heavy weapons teams). That will also give me time to paint up the kill team and see if I enjoy the work that goes into the faction before I commit the big bucks and that much painting time.

Easy pass for me.  The content is utterly unsuitable for a force for the table and requires much investment to make a workable army.  From a design perspective, ive waited years for GW to do a plastic DKoK, and had great hopes after the KTboxset, but then the awful cartoonlike deathriders and the lack of a massed infantry feel have been a massive let down.  Nothing there to tempt me or any of the guard players/collectors i know.  As an earlier poster said, there far superior 3rd party 3D printed stuff out there, for a fraction of the cost.

I'm going to try and get one; glad so many planned passes, gives me a better chance of getting one it seems!

With 2 sets of horses, an HQ character on horse, the artillery piece, and engineers, that's five separate kits if buy individually (plus codex and cards, but that's just padding for me); so, even if I only wanted to get one set of cavalry, it'd still be something like:

£40 (Death Riders ~ Rough Riders x1)

£40 (Lord Marshal Dreir ~ Leontus)

£34 (Heavy Ordnance Artillery Team ~ Field Ordnance Battery)

£28 (Engineers ~ Cadian Comand Squad)

£142

So, if the box is £145 (~ Blood Angels Army Set), I'm getting 5 extra Death Riders plus Codex/cards for £3.

Box value is definitely good, particularly if you can get it from an FLGS and are adding to an existing army. Just not the best for starting an army, unless you are leaning heavily into the mounted theme I suppose.

Hmm. Thinking about it more this army box is like a Blood Angel Army filled with Baal Predators and Furioso Dreads. Sure, they are unique Blood Angel units, but it doesn't feel like the heart and soul of a Blood Angels army to me. Perhaps they were scared that Krieg guard would get the stigma of the most static gunline in the guard book and leaned into the Death Riders to counter that? To me Krieg is infantry and artillery primarily backed up by cavalry and the odd tank. I might buy one of the artillery pieces but I have to steer away from another army.

I wonder if Krieg doesn't meet GW's expectations if that could but a dampener on any plans for doing things like Catachan in the future?

We don't know if they have plans of course, or what they're internal sales goals are but it's food for thought.

I actually wouldn't be surprised if the stand alone release for the Codex falls in March. I don't know why, just wouldn't surprise me.

It's not supposed to be an army in a box, it's just a combination of their new releases.

There's no old units in this box.  It's all new stuff.  Something like a battleforce is going to lean more towards "army in box" that you're looking for, but also GW is incentivized to not sell you an entire army at once, as they make more money off of individual kits over combination boxes.

As far as "Feeling like krieg", idk what's more krieg than Death Riders, outrageously oversized artillery, and a death cult.  These guys check all the Krieg boxes.

I'm just more surprised there's been 0 word about any MORE releases.  We know there's a command squad coming down the line, and a heavy weapons squad, but anything else?  Even just a reboxing of the Veteran Guardsman DKOK box for non-KT.  I don't think they revealed all the Cadian stuff in one go, so I wonder.

I’ve been Guard for decades.  If you’d have told me there would be a Krieg box set of plastic and I wouldn’t buy it by choice, I’d have said you were full of it.

The box is just weird.  I already have 10 old DRs.  No infantry?  No tanks?  I hate resin and I like the new riders but not enough to spend that.  I was pumped at first but after I thought about what it actually was…….eh.  I hope there is more coming or I’m sticking with my resin.

Pretty sure it already has? I've been keeping an eye out since the new one was announced because, it's really not for me.

The old one was almost perfect for me (I'd personally have traded the Field Ordnance Batteries for a Heavy Weapons Squad) for the bulk of a Guard army.

Im interested in getting this box, still wrspping my head around the horse legs bending forward but I like them.

can Krieg use standard guard stuff or only krieg themed models? I like the look of the sentinel and some tanks.

hopefully it wont be too limited a release

They're entering the "marine bloat" phase. Krieg have specific units within guard, but they also have access to everything else. Tanks etc aren't associated to a regiment so you could use them. You could also use death korps, catachan jungle fighters and cadians all in 1 army and each of those units has different rules. It's a bit of a mess imo.

Replaced in that you won't be able to find any more of the old CP box unless you get lucky, but if you have the models, you can still keep playing the old Combat Patrol in Combat Patrol games.

It was a much better CP box for what CP used to be; the evolution of Start Collecting.  It was supposed to be an introduction to the faction and give you a somewhat good base to start building stuff out of, then they shifted it into it's own game type in 8th/9th, and now in 10th, it's just a sad shell of what it used to be.  New Combat Patrols have all resoundingly been pretty meh.

I'll probably get the new CP just to have 20 Rough Riders (I like horses), but the rest of the box is basically useless as someone who already enjoyed Kasrkin and who got the Army Box for cheap soon after 10th started (Since it released so late in 9th).

Not even close.  We're a full 30+ datasheets down from Codex Space Marines.  Plenty of room to bloat us up even more ;)

Ah ok thank you so much, I think ill start the army then

Yeah you can have up to 24 infantry squads of 20 each (6 x Cadian, 6 x Catachan, 6 x Krieg and 6 x generic infantry squad) for a total of 480 men.

But you can still only take 3 heavy weapon squads in support …

sadge. lol

imagine painting that many infantry.

I think I more or less have the paints I need sorted. oddly enough, I need less paints for this army then for custodes range and or votann range.  - no skin to paint really, so that saves a lot, and hair.

Anyways, the artillery looks awesome, don't even care if it's not good.

I like the horses

going to be an expensive month for me.

Soo much negativity when the contents have been known for a while. I'm getting a box as I have a decent amount of Krieg Infantry and this adds something different to it. I've never seen these limited boxes as a core army builder but more as add ons or specific unit type within a faction. Codex and cards will also get a use from me..if a datasheet changes...sticky notes cover that for me lol.
